Pellet tube?

Bought a tube for my pellet cooker, for those short cooks, and high temp cooks where there is not much smoke. I light it with a hand held torch, but only get a small wisp or two, not going to be nearly enough smoke. I have laid it horizontally, and propped it up vertical, it makes no difference. this tube only has one end that is capped, which I don't think I like very much, but I understand most are made that way now, tried it two or three times, sometimes all the pellets will burn to ash, while other times they hardly burn at all, even though the pellets seem to be burning well at the start.

Am I doing something wrong here? am I expecting to much? If this is as good as it gets I wont bother to use it, however I may try small wood chip. At this time I am burning Lumber Jack Hickory pellets.

I'll mix in a little bit of sterno at the end and light it. After it gets going pretty good, blow out the flames. Or I'll sometimes just hold the end over the firepot for a few seconds while it's blazing.

I light my pellet tube with a little torch too and let it burn until it looks like this:

On my Primo, it works the best shoehorned under the cooking grate in the front of the cooker between the outer and inner ceramic bowls. Puts out plenty of nice smoke this way...

On top of the grate, it snuffs itself out. Below the grate at the bottom of the firebox, it flames up from too much oxygen, I think. Gotta find a spot that is just right for your smoker.

It may also be an issue with the pellets. Some pellets wick more moisture, some are really densely packed and almost look like they have a coating on the outside...they may start to burn and smoulder but then don't "catch" the other pellets down the line.

I have the maze, I light until I get a half inch of burn and blow out the flame. Open all air vents top and bottom and close the lid. I presume it would be similar with the tube.

mine went out on mine one time but I don't think I lit it very good. Now I light with a torch like you and get it going real good I'm not sure how long maybe 2-3 min. with torch then I let it flame another minute or 2 before blowing it out. I run mine on the cooking grate at the very back where there more air flow

Mojobricks better than pellet tube; have both use tube for cold smoke and bricks for all other cooking in the Pellet grill

I have a FEC 100. I use a 12" amazing pellet smoker. I fill the tube up lacking 1/2 inch with Apple wood pellets. I then make a cup of foil to which I add a little lighter fluid and then allow the pellets to form little burning coals. I add this to the tube and prop it open side up next to the fire box. I get 3-4 hours of smoke and I've never had it go out. After I started using the tube my smoked meat has a perfect smoked flavor. I also use it to smoke cheese. I place a 1/2 hotel pan on the bottom shelf with ice. On the top shelf space I put the cheese. Of course with cheese I just use the tube.

I have never had any luck with my amazing tube! It seems to always go out after 20-30 mins.

The Amaz'n Maze has always worked better for me. I also have Mojobricks, but I have to place one on the firepot, which makes it difficult after the first brick. The mojobricks don't last that long. FWIW.

My Amazon tube works great in my FEC 100 and my gas grill, but the key is to let it burn for at least ten minutes before blowing out. I keep hitting it with my propane tour has and never have problems.
