• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I remember watching the "big pig jig" on the food network and one of the competitors, (I believe it was Jack's old south) said his secret is that he uses peach wood on his BBQ. My question is: Has anyone ever used peach wood? What were the results? Where would someone buy peach wood?

Hawgeyes link in the links section. They ship everything

I have a friend who has a small peach orchard and he gave some peach wood last fall. Finally used some recently & it worked real good. Gonna have to take him some Q next time i see him.

Wasn't it Saiko that had a big stash of peach wood........??
Saiko's got cherry

Peach wood rocks on ribs (spares or bb's). There are a number of people that have won rib contests with the stuff.

I have used peach it is ok. I like apple better.
My Wood supplier has been trying to push peach because apple is getting harder to get around here.
Peach is not my first choice but it has a soft sweet flavor.

i used Peach and pear during the summer when the farms are trimming and clearing. Mild smoke, Sweeter than apple. Smells real nice in the yard. Big issue is LOW BTU's. Either your gonna need a bigger fire, or need alternative fuel mixed in... Some lump, or some oak or hickory.

As usual, Phil's comments are right on. Orchard farmers prune their fruit trees from late fall to late winter and usually have the trimmings lying around in a burn pile for at least 4-6 mos. to dry out before they torch them. Just go up to the house and ask if they have any wood you can take and tell them you would be happy to bring them some tastey Q using the wood they gave you. I've yet to be turned down.

Hey Neil... with all those grape fields up around your area, do you ever use grape vine? Those farkin' places are all over around my in-laws house.

BTW... what are you doing over Father's Day weekend? My wife and daughter are coming up to Bridgman for the weekend to visit her family. I think there's some picnic thing at a winery near there they always go to. Maybe I can find a time to drop by and say hello.

Jeff, I'll deffinitely be around and getting together would be great. As far as using grape vines, I haven't yet but plan to. I know of a farmer who just cut down one of his vineyards and just haven't gotten ahold of him yet. I'll try to grab some soon so you can take some back to KC with you.

That would be great, Neil! I've been wanting to try grape smoke. I'll bring you some KC style Q sauce. Any preferences?

i JUST used grape vines this past week. Mom in law brought a big trash bag over at the end of last summer. Found the bag in the shed and threw them in the cooker last week.

poof.. kindling...... gone in seconds. used with hickory, found no difference.
