A recipe I'm preparing calls for parboiled pearl onions. How long should I boil them? I need to par boil them and some carrots chunks. Should I do them seperate or at one time?

Thanks,
Ty

I would assume they are going to be cooked further in some sort of dish.
I would cook them about half way done.
Same time shouldn't hurt.

Kabobs in the smoker. Will be in the smoke for 45 min.

Are they peeled? If not, the best trick for them is to blanch in vigorously boiling salted water for about 20 seconds and immedialtey into an ice bath let cool for a minute and the peel will come right off. From there it depends how long they will cook later. I also would cook them (par boil) in as little water as possible, just enough to cover, so you don't lose too much flavor/color.

Just saw the reply you could just blanch together and depending on thickeness of carrots (1/2") this should lock the color (they will come out nice orange) and 45 minutes will be enough to cook through, just don't crowd the skewers.

For 45 minutes in a smoker I would forgo the peeling headache and us frozen pearl onions.
