• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Open for suggestions on my new Bandera!

I got a new Bandera and plan to put it together and use it this weekend. I already printed the Bandera 101 but I was looking for tips and tricks. I dont think I will be able to build the new fire rack in time so I was also looking for a quick fix. Thanks alot!

If you can get the expanded metal and cut it to size it should handle one cook without the straps for support. Otherwise you can use the hardware that came with the cooker if you elevate it a little to get some more airflow.

Definately make a baffle - even if just heavy duty foil.

Jorge, are you talking about the straps of expanded metal they mention in Bandera 101?

Like Jorge said, Bream: elevate that fire rack. I used bricks for quite a while...

And, like Chad said, a foil baffle will also work for a couple of cooks. You've probably got what you need at the house already to get cookin'. ;)

Take the existing factory fire grate, rotate it 90 degrees and turn it upside down.
Slide into the lowest set of shelf racks in the firebox for a quick fix.

Get better grate as soon as you can. The stock grate lets everything fall into the ashes too quickly.
I am currently using a grate from a dead gasser. I had to trim about three inches off one end and it works fine. Holds coals a lot better.

The 2" metal that is used to support the expanded metal. There should still be some pics in the Photo Gallery. Kapn has the easiest quick solution. Arlin's will work as well.
