• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Has anyone tried ordering from Omaha Steaks? I got a brochure in the mail today and was thinking about placing an order.

Any suggestions about what's good there if any?

I used to get coupons that I could cash in on Omaha Steak products from were I work. I know that the company is legitimate. The service is good. The steaks come to your door packed in dry ice inside a very handy styrofoam cooler.
I am sure that the whole process is expensive. I am sure that the meat is taken from high quality beef. I just cannot bring myself to pay out of my pocket the $$$ that these folks want.

I don't think that flash frozen steak is better than a fresh one from the grocery store as far as taste go.

The cooler is very cool.

I do miss those coupons.

It is ok but not over the top. Most of their meat is choice, you have to pay for their private selection stuff to get prime. You are probably going to get better beef from a good butcher selling prime or choice. The advantage I have found with Omaha or KC Steak Company is that they are usually a good portion and are pre-frozen so you can always count on finding something decent in the freezer when you have nothing else around.

Being in Kansas, they are way over priced, but we have very good butcher shops around here selling Prime Rib eyes for 10.99lb and Sterling Silver Angus Choice for 9.49 lb. Omaha steak are good though if you cant get better where you live.

My Aunt bought me a package deal from Omaha Steaks. The steaks were very good. It came bundled with a small set of knives. They were a joke!

I just received six 5oz Sirloins from the glass company that installed a new truck windshield, value according to the catalog was 54.00. Not worth the money IMHO.

I did it once a few years ago just to see what all the fuss was about. It was decent stuff for sure, but not worth the extra cash. Find a good butcher or a CAB dealer if you want some really good stuff.

Go here
http://www.certifiedangusbeef.com/
and click on where to buy. It should tell you the location of a CAB dealer near you.

If you want to give it a try there are BBQs Galore that carry their product in a case. It wasn't bad, but I can do just as well at a local butcher shop for the same $ or less.

This is all I need to see on these steaks:

Code:
Item # Product Selection Qty Each Total
583XE 4 (8 oz.) Top Sirloins 1 $34.99 $34.99
                           Shipping & Handling: $11.99
                                          Tax: $0.00
                                      Subtotal: $46.98

That's 2lbs of Sirloins for $23.49 a pound. Change it to 12 (8 oz) Top Sirloins and the shipping goes to $14.99 and the total bill is $94.84, which is $15.83 per pound. I can buy a lot of a better cut of meat for $15.83 a pound.

Find your self a good butcher where you live and spend the money there. If you order from Omaha steaks they will call you every week ask for orders.

Not impressed by Omaha steaks. For that money I can do much much better

I've tried them. They are more impressive to send someone as a gift than to purchase for personal use.

The steaks are fairly decent but as already pointed out, beef is not on the endangered list.

They also have a commercial dept. I contacted them as to price when I thought I might like to have their ribeye on my menu.
Not much a price break at all.
I don't think people would be happy being charged $40 for an 8oz steak.

Got some as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago so that is nice and the cooler is ok too.
Sent some as a gift last year to one of my brothers and family, ok too.
BUT
Now I get the circular(s) and "deal of the week, month day, century " etc etc. about 6 to 8 times a month and just toss em.
Nice gift item but as per the other replies, we can do better for everyday needs.
Am gonna send em the take me off your list reply soon.

Agreed, dude by the time you pay for S&H and all that markup just go find yourself a small butcher shop in your area. I guarantee you'll get just as good or better meat for half the price.
