• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Here's a couple of pics of the old OK joe I got from CL a couple of months ago for $50. The serial number on the nameplate is either 000027 or 29. Gonna be a labor of love to bring him back to good working condition.

I love the looks of that bad boy. It is well built and should be mostly a cosmetic restoration judging from the pics. Gonna be worth the effort.

A worthy project there!

It always cracks me up, those notices like 'For outdoor use only' as if someone is going to set that up in the living room to cook . . . heh heh . . . can you imagine?

What is that handle on the firebox made of? It seems to have escaped the rust attack somehow . . .

Wes, that is going to look nice when you clean it up! I never could get any info on my NB, It has an OK Joes/New Braunfels thermometer and logo. I wish I had the time and patience that I put into rehabbing mine to cook on it!
Have fun!!

Looks Awesome Wes, I have one that looks to be a bit older sitting in my driveway. Up until thia year it was my primary cooker.

When you get to refurbbing it, place a baffle between the firebox and the cooking chamber to help control the heat. Also extend the smoke stack inside the cooking chamber down to the grate for more heat control.

A Wire wheel, a palm sander with emery cloth sheets, a particle mask, safety glasses, rags, mineral spirits, rustoleum high heat paint, and some elbow grease and your good to go. 4 hours and a shower brother.

Nice score Westexbbq!

If you need any mod ideas while restoring let me know. I have done a bunch to mine that have helped

ZILLA has got the plan man. Four hours and a shower. Love it LOL
For me prolly 4 days and a shower. old and slow mod. I do everything like I cook Q.
Good luck with the project.

Heres a link with some mods, I have done them and the cooker will run 4-5 hours on 7-8 lbs of lump, for some reason the url will not show correctly, there is a underscore between kjz and bbq, however the program defaults and it gets lost, please type this address, do use the link as shown

Good Luck with her:-D
