Wanted to see if anyone could help me identify the pit I just bought via Big Mista's info recently...

This is a "bandera type", manufactured by Taber in Perry, OK. The label has a serial number stamped with the phrase - "We know BarBQue". Any help on history or lineage of this unit? Thanks!!!

I was looking at that, but knew I would have no place to put it. What type of condition was/is it in. Looks like it needed a little cleaning, Lookinf forward to seeing what you do with it. PICS PICS PICS and then take more PICS.

From what i read on a google search, Oklahoma Joe's (Joe Davidson) is out of business. Joe's brother owns Horizon mfg. which makes a full line of bbq pits.

Perhaps there is some relationship to Taber or, if not, maybe they would know of them if you call or email to ask?

Just a wild stab. Can't be all that many pit manufactures there.

That's a new one to me. Ditch Witch is up in Perry, I know, but hadn't heard of a pit maker.

Never heard of Taber, but Horizon makes a damn good cooker. We bought one at work a couple of years ago, and I really like it. I can't imagine that the Horizon folks wouldn't know of someone else in Perry making pits. It's not exactly a metropolis. When I asked someone there where a good place to eat was, the reply was "Stillwater."
