• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I went to a KCBS contest in Fitzgerald, GA this weekend, and have a question for those of you that are more experienced/smarter than I am.

There was 26 teams, but only 3 tables of judges (which I understand can happen if they can't find enough judges). The odd thing was that with only 3 tables, we ended up on the same table for 3 of our 4 meats, so the same judges judged us 3 times. I was under the impression that wasn't supposed to happen. Obviously we'd hit the same table twice, but hitting it 3 times seems a little out of the ordinary.

I'm not complaining too much cause we ended up 5th overall, but I am just curious.

Concerning but get this. A team at a contest we were at in Clio, Mi this weekend got a comment card saying his pork box was not appetizing because the way he had the pork in the box looked like a VAGINA! I saw the card with my own eyes. He said hes been doing that presentation for some time. No idea why the repz didnt question the judge on that.
Whats next?

OK, now we have to see some pron!!

Perhaps the Reps missed this 2016 addition to the KCBS rules. It appears in Item 2 of the Judging Procedures section:

To prevent a team's food from landing on the same judging table twice in any type of KCBS sanctioned contest, the use of only three tables of judges should only occur when all other options have been exhausted.

I would write a letter to the Board of Directors asking for an explanation of why only three tables were used. The use of only three tables creates a mathematical bias in favor of some teams and against other teams based purely on which table a entry lands on for a second time. This is patently unfair and should honestly never be allowed to happen.

So looking at the judging procedure PDF it doesn't explicitly say that a team shouldn't be at the same table more than once, only that there should only be 3 tables if every other option has been exhausted. Am I wrong in thinking that there's a rule somewhere that says i shouldn't be on the same table twice (or 3 times in this case)?

I just hate it when that happens. That judge should not be invited back.

I would go to the KCBS website and use a contest critic form(it's under "resources"). It has a place for the scoring of reps and also a place to ask if you want to be contacted by KCBS.

My wife showed me this on Facebook. The team posted the comment card and a picture of his box. It was a good looking box and I'm not sure where the judge is coming from. Most reps tell us judges at our meeting to use comment cards but to be constructive with our comments and cards with obnoxious comments would be trashed.

You've got to share that pic here.

I have seen pork boxes that are just sliced money muscle not fanned out that look exactly like a big turd. And I did provide a comment card pointing that out. I have seen other pork boxes that resemble a male appendage, but I really now want to see one that looks like a vagina!

I am concerned with the comment card stating "Table Captain ruled..."

From Judge's audio recording http://www.kcbs.us/downloads/2016_cbj_manual.pdf

10. Whether you believe the container is legal or not, you are asked to permanently write your score for Appearance of the entry on your scorecard as if it is legal. After all Judges have scored the entry, if you believe that there is any question of legality, bring this to the attention of your Table Captain and he/she will bring your question to the attention of a KCBS Contest Rep for his/her binding determination

Did you have the opportunity to ask the Rep how/why that happened?
