Brother Ron_L was in town for a convention so you know I had to meet up with him for some beer and Q. I contacted a few local brethren and got Norcoredneck and new brother Thawley came out to meet us.

Since Ron_L was staying by Disneyland, I took him to a spot called Johnny Rebs in the City of Orange. I had never been to this particular location and I had never had BBQ at the other location that I went to but I liked the atmosphere and they did good Southern Style cooking.

Johnny Rebs is a place with peanuts on the table and peanut shells on the floor. They go a long way to make the restaurant look like a roadhouse. Mismatched chairs, wooden floors and a screened in patio with holes in itall add to the effect.

We sat down and ordered some cold beer on tap and decided to try and appetizer that none of us had ever had before. Fried Pickles! Who knew?

They had a cornmeal coating and were served with ranch dressing. What a treat!

Dinner came after some good conversation. Ronelle had the Ribs and brisket combo with coleslaw, beans and hushpuppies. Norco had the Big combo with chicken, ribs and brisket. I know beans were one of his side dishes but I couldn't see the other one because of all of the food on his plate. I had the combo with brisket and Texas Hot Links. My sides were collard greens and something else I had never had before, Brunswick Stew. I don't know if this was prepared correctly or not because I didn't have a frame of reference but it was good and I guess that ii all that matters.

We all ordered our meat with the sauce on the side. Our brisket was cold and the waiter gladly brought us out more that was warm. I guess they normally count on the sauce to warm it up. All of the meat had flavor except for Norco's chicken. We thought the food was better that average for restaurant BBQ.

Thawley had already had dinner but he came out to have a beer with us. I appreciate that.

I'm always excited to hang out with my brethren and I'm glad Ron_L gave us yet another reason to do so. It was good to see you brother!!

Well, I guess I will go get ready for work now. Just wanted to tell you guys about this while it was fresh on my mind.

Sorry no pics. Couldn't believe we all forgot a camera!!!

Sounds like a good time by all. I, too, like to order my meat nekkid. It should stand on it's own and not need sauce for flavor. Scott

It amazes me how this website makes the world so small.
Pretty cool that you all make time for each other whenever another brother is in the area.
I don't get out much, so y'all are free to stop in at the Yacht Club whenever you're in South Central Wisconsin. If you're lucky, I'll be Q'ing.

Fried Pickles...mmmmmm good.
I suppose some fried sliced jaleps would be good to.

Sounds like a great time Mister

But, I'll bite.

What the hell is O.C. in the title stand for?

In the presance of greatness

Hey Mista...

Great time last night. Was a pleasure meeting you and RonL and Norco.

Most impressive to me was how down to earth you are considering your celebrity. Hell, it wasn't until the end of the evening that I even realized who you were... There I was, talking about fatties and butts like I would with anyone and sitting right next to a famous UDS video GOD. Wow. I've watched your video so many times I know it by heart...

I'm still embarrassed that I didn't have my autograph book with me. I won't forget next time.

See you fellas at the bash

Mista!! Is that place worth the trip from Oceanside??

Did you just say your on your way to work? I was gonna ask what you did or didnt do because I see you on here so much but didnt want to strike a nerve if you were out of work lol. You must have a computer at work at least!

As I sit here shading my screen from the boss haha

I really want to stop by the bash next Saturday....do I need to bring my own pen for the autographs??

Well leftovers tasted ok at 2:30 a.m. Left it in microwave to let smell linger. Couple of coworkers threw money at me knowing I am cooking pulled pork monday for girlscouts. I guess I can do some extra.

Nice to meet Ron and John. Enjoyed the visit. Of course Mista asked to see the kitchen and waiter was supposed to check to see if it was ok. The bashful person Mista is came back from restroom trip with full report on smoker  .

Yeah that one threw me too. I'll just say thanks for the compliment and move on...

Depends on how good the Q is in Oceanside. The food was good and I loved the atmosphere. Would I drive an hour just to go there? Probably not. But then there are other locations that are closer to me. We just went to that one because it was close to Ron_L's hotel.

I work in the treasury management department of a bank. I have two monitors and have mastered the art of multi-tasking.

Just show up and have a good time. Ask Norcoredneck for an autograph. He's the guy that's hosting this shindig.
