Brother Ron_L was in town for a convention so you know I had to meet up with him for some beer and Q. I contacted a few local brethren and got Norcoredneck and new brother Thawley came out to meet us.
Since Ron_L was staying by Disneyland, I took him to a spot called Johnny Rebs in the City of Orange. I had never been to this particular location and I had never had BBQ at the other location that I went to but I liked the atmosphere and they did good Southern Style cooking.
Johnny Rebs is a place with peanuts on the table and peanut shells on the floor. They go a long way to make the restaurant look like a roadhouse. Mismatched chairs, wooden floors and a screened in patio with holes in itall add to the effect.
We sat down and ordered some cold beer on tap and decided to try and appetizer that none of us had ever had before. Fried Pickles! Who knew?
They had a cornmeal coating and were served with ranch dressing. What a treat!
Dinner came after some good conversation. Ronelle had the Ribs and brisket combo with coleslaw, beans and hushpuppies. Norco had the Big combo with chicken, ribs and brisket. I know beans were one of his side dishes but I couldn't see the other one because of all of the food on his plate. I had the combo with brisket and Texas Hot Links. My sides were collard greens and something else I had never had before, Brunswick Stew. I don't know if this was prepared correctly or not because I didn't have a frame of reference but it was good and I guess that ii all that matters.
We all ordered our meat with the sauce on the side. Our brisket was cold and the waiter gladly brought us out more that was warm. I guess they normally count on the sauce to warm it up. All of the meat had flavor except for Norco's chicken. We thought the food was better that average for restaurant BBQ.
Thawley had already had dinner but he came out to have a beer with us. I appreciate that.
I'm always excited to hang out with my brethren and I'm glad Ron_L gave us yet another reason to do so. It was good to see you brother!!
Well, I guess I will go get ready for work now. Just wanted to tell you guys about this while it was fresh on my mind.
Sorry no pics. Couldn't believe we all forgot a camera!!!
