• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Brethren,

Here we have another chance to:

Cook:
Feed People:
Make em smile, eyes roll in the head, socks roll up and down.
Hang out for a few days
Promote our art of low and slow
Help one of our brothers shine(yakfishingfool) and give back to a great charity.

On May 5 and 6, 200 kayakers will converge on historic Floyd Bennett Field. They are there to raise money for "Casting For Recovery", an organizations that gives aid to Breast cancer survivors and in their recovery.

I have committed to cooking for these 200. So I am gonna be busy!! And I hate cooking alone.

All meats, fuels and supplies are covered by the event.

All we have to do is show up, cook,
and put on a show to promote
our art of real BBQ.
We get to do what we love,
and have fun doing it
and its for a good cause.

It would be great to have a bunch of Brethren Cooks or Teams cooks to hang out, relax and feed these hungry kayakers as they work to raise money for charity. Hopefully, our presence will contribute to the growth of the event.

We will be serving Dinner Saturday Night. Pulled pork, chicken quarters and salad sides. Then Breakfast Sunday morning of bacon, eggs, sausage.

We will need help for cooking, prep, and serving..... and whatever else..

So I ask to The Brethren.
May 5th and 6th.

WHO'S IN!!!!

Floyd Bennett Field is 18 miles from NYC, or 40 miles west of Willy B's just off the Belt Pkwy west of the Rockaways.

Heres the Original Thread when we first started talking about it.

Dont let the title discourage anyone.... You wanna drive down from Maine or over from Cali?? The more the merrier!!

Outstanding Phil!!!! I'll be there to fish and to help feed if necessary. Guy's, this is a great opportunity to enjoy an equally great group of folks. I'm a member of both groups and can attest for both. I'll bring some extra yaks if someone wants to give it a try and there will be plenty of fishing equipment if needed. I'll be there friday am, early to sunday pm, late. Scott

I am definitely in for the Cinco de Mayo fish fest, barring an "unforseen" scheduling conflict. The wife blames them on my poor listening skills...

Are folks camping out there?

YES!!! Alot of us will be camping right on the tarmac. There is a one holer crapper and plenty of room on the deck for everyone. Some folks will be bringing campers and others like me just a tent. See you there. Scott

If we can camp, we're in. Any idea what type of facilities are available?

We'll help with whatever is needed. Will there be large cookers for us to use? Do you need charcoal?

There is a campground there, it is a bit off the tarmac, most of us will be on the tarmac, about 100 yards away is a one holer head, nice but not always convenient. Nothing else I'm afraid. Bring tents, canopies, etc, etc. Scott

Great, I will help out and be glad to participate and assist.
Count me in.

I'll be there !!!! OK... so now that we've got a menu for the kayakers, what are we cooking ??

Seriously, I think this is gonna be a great time... Wouldn't miss it.

I'll bring my Spicewine and usual contest set up (tables, canopies etc). Depending what other cookers everyone else brings, I can also bring the WSM's & Kettle (but the Pitts & Spitts might be too much for the little trailer).

Yak - Do you know if there is electricity in that area ?

Phil,

I'd be more than happy to help if there is anything you need done by someone with limited mobility. And who is sort of a newbie.

I can peel and chop and answer questions with the best of them though!

If we don't hear back, should we assume that offers of help are accepted and we are expected?

Eric

There is no electricity, but a generator would be ok I'd think. This is truly a no frills area. But noise won't be an issue, make all you want :)

If we have an idea on area needed, Phil, Joey and I can set aside an area to set up. There is usually a "tent city", can set up next to it. I'll have my canopy as well if needed, and a tent. There may be a motorhome or two there we can tap into. scott

yes, all offers of help in any way, shape and form are accepted and appreciated. Even if its to come down and hang out!!

We will need servers. In order to have some kind of portion control, we will be serving by the plate. A sammich, quarter chicken and 2-3 sides and beverages by the can and bottle. So if anything, at serving time, the more hands, the better.

Electricty will be needed for lighting in the morning.. and music all day!!

OHHHH - Mr. TV BBQ man, eh! Mr. TV Smoker dude...................just kiddin'!!!

If I can get my Mom settled I will be in! Long story nother thread but I will do my best let me know what you need most!

I am really going to try and make this thing, but May is a very busy month for me, I am leaving for 2 weeks in Japan the following week.
I would really like to come and cook or serve food but what I really want is to come down do some fishin and hook something big enough to take me on a Sleigh Ride!

Phil,

I don't know if you are keeping notes on times and such, but as of now I plan on arriving midafternoon and leaving after the food is served (no earlier than 9:00 or so).

I'll be happy to do whatever scut work is needed.

I assume you mean Saturday night dinner and Sunday breakfast. Just wanted to confirm the schedule.

What time should we get there Sat to be useful?
