• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

......not bad all the same (for the UK that is:-D)
Just bought these cedar planks from fleabay for £1.99. Postage was a little steep but that's how it seems to be going in the UK. I'll have to test one of these on the Weber when I've picked it up, especially since I buinged a couple of whole rainbow trout in the trolley when I was in Saiansburys the other day.
I'm gonna get the neighbours talkin' about me if it kills me.
"Look he's out there again, barbecueing, and it's only March for goodness sake!":mrgreen:

Make sure to soak the cedar thoroughly, and clean it afterwards, as you can reuse it.

Wilco Txschutte. I presume soak it in water, yes? I had typed 'Can one soak it in other fluids, such as white wine/beer etc?' but then thought, hang on, white wine contains alcohol, which will basically act as an acellerant to combustion of the cedar:redface:
So I'll stick to soaking the cedar in water and the fish in wine:-D

I like to submerge and soak overnight. Put one side down on the grill to dry and warm for a minute or so. Flip and rub warmed side with EVOO and add your fish. Your gonna luv it!!8-)

You'll also get more mileage out of your cedar planks if you cook indirectly. Just push the coals into equal sized heaps on the sides of your fire grate and position the plank so that it's above the open area on the fire grate below.

I cedar plank salmon all the time on my Weber grill. You are in for a treat!

Cedar?

So can you smoke with cedar or not???

I just asked Midnight about smoking with cedar, and he gave me an unequivocal NO.

You all seem to be saying cedar+food+fire=good eats!

Clarification por favor?

I wouldn't burn it, but I have had a lot of good results with planking. Since you soak the board in water for a few hours, it doesn't do much more than release steam and whatever the water extracts from the wood into the food.

Definitely good eats. I like to put some "Potlach" seasoning on the salmon before planking.
