• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

No need to wear gloves he said.......

I don't wear gloves while prepping jalapenos and the only time I have a problem is when I forget to wash my hands real good before scratching or rubbing my eyes.

Gloves would probably be helpful in that regard.

At least it wasn't Habanero's.

Ok,,has to be told.

years ago,scotch bonnet's

prepping a bunch up , had to go pee,,on the way to the potty my eyes were watering from the peppers.

so i rubbed my eyes..

and as guy's do while standing in front of the throne i had a bit of a scratch on the "boy's" .. :(

a few minits later all HELL broke loose !!!

i jumped in the cold shower...NO relief !

made it worse !!

i knew i was gonna be blind and never have children !!!

stumbled my way to the phone crying and blinking my eyes trying to see in between blinks of pain i called my sister a nurse.

she said "you need oil ! "

in one blink i saw mineral oil on the shelf !

reached blindly and grabbed the bottle and opened it,,decision time,,,where first ??

decided the " boy's " had priority !! LOL !!!

then the eyes...

drenching my parts in the oil reduced the pain within seconds.

a couple min later was almost pain free.

ten min later like it never happened.

called my sis back and she told me oil is the only thing that dilutes oil..

after soap and water to wash everything off.

BTW: never have had children ??

Always careful about the eyes and "other sensitive places".
Jalapenos are funny. Some have no heat some will blow your socks off.
When I make pepper jelly I wear gloves now. (Scotch bonnets, jalapenos, Italian chilies etc). It only took about 4 batches to figure that out.
Good to know about the oil.

Who is "he", and how does he handle peppers???

He is me (The smart half of my brain, not the side I listen to). Cutting and I scoop out the seeds and membrane with a small spoon. Need to be careful about spray coming up into my eyes as well.

Dish soap is a surfactant,, good on dishes but once oil soaks into your skin,,it dont work.

Also i dont think i would put it in my eyes ??

Oil is also good on poison ivy,,IF you know you have been exposed quick enuf you can halt the effects of it's oil.

if you get it before you starts scratching,,that drives it in further,,and apply oil and scrub /rub well it can help a lot.

Silly girls...Only time I have worn gloves is when processing ghost peppers and especially when I made my Carolina Reaper sauce

Made a sauce that calls for two pounds of coarse cut Habeneros...I grow the Red Savina Habs so they are damn hot...Next day the backs of my hands and forearms felt like sunburn...It comes with the territory...
