• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I saw a commercial on tv about a new hand held vacuum sealer from Reynolds Wrap.it looks like it would be handy for smaller stuff. I wonder if it works worth a darn.. http://www.alcoa.com/reynoldskitchens/handi_vac/en/home.asp

here is some pertinent details from the FAQ on the site
""Suggested retail price is $9.99 for the Reynolds® Handi-Vac Vacuum Sealer Starter Kit that includes 1 Vacuum Sealer and 3 Quart Size Vacuum Freezer Bags. The cost is $3.29 for cartons of 14 Quart Size Bags or 9 Gallon Size Bags.""
""Reynolds Handi-Vac Vacuum Freezer Bags are not recommended for storing liquids or liquid based foods like soup, stews, or sauces. The Bags work great for freezing meats coated with dry seasoning rubs.""

Interesting.

My first gut reaction was: "you get what you pay for" .

After looking at the site---?????
It might just be handy for casual home use....time will tell.

There is little "downside risk" if it does not work.

Try it and let us know.

If a Vacuum sealer sucks, that's a good thing. :-D

I would wait for some reviews to come in before I bought the Reynolds sealer. I have the Tila Foodsaver and it works great. The Foodsaver has a hose and allows you to vacuum marinate meat in an optional vacuum canister.

I bought one and it works pretty darn good. I'm taking it to the Nor Cal Bash this weekend and we shall break it in properly.

Assuming there is left overs to seal.

Mrs Mafia saw it on TV yesterday and I think we will have one soon.

Ok, it's had a positive review. Now I'm going to have to get one!

Looks cool and all but, I'd just as soon use my foodsaver.

I don't think it will replace Food Saver. But for $10 bucks I figured it was worth a shot. We will see if it lasts.

Pics from the Bash will follow...

My only concern is the zip seal might let loose. Then you're farked. Other than that, looks good. Price is great!

Can you send some of those Vac sealed leftovers my way. That is of course if there is any left.:-D

Have fun at the bash.

Couldn't you just squeeze the excess air out of the bag????

I know Tilia bags are high, but it looks to me as though what you spend in batteries and bags you could buy a Foodsaver pretty quickly.

I also use mine for storing soups, etc. I just hang the bag of soup over the edge of the counter and when the liquid gets to the top I pudh the seal button.

I wonder what else yo could use one of those for beside food bags.

You trying to use vacuum to force the marinade into the meat, right? Wouldn't you need some sort of pressurized container instead of a vacuum?

It would sure seem that way, but I use the foodsaver marinating pan and it puts a couple hours worth of marinade into the meat in about 20 minutes. I'm thinking someone told me that pressure treated lumber is actually done under vacuum as well. I know that you can see little bubbles come out of the meat as you vacuum it.
