Over the last few months I've been gathering parts to build a UDS, and yesterday I was talking to one of my buddies about it. He told me that his neighbor had a propane smoker for sale and said I should take a look. It was a GOSM Big Block (model 3605BGD) and had only been used 4 times. The guys mom bought it new and used it twice, and decided it was too much trouble and gave it to her son. He has only used it twice because he has a smaller Masterbuilt electric that he uses. It was a little faded and dirty on the outside (and a little rust on the legs) from being out in the weather, but inside looks almost new. Everything works and it came with an extra hose/control knob assembly - he thought it was bad and replaced it, but it was just because it was a windy day the first time he used it.

He wouldn't go less than $100 on it, but I figured what the heck. A little cleaning and some paint and it should look like new.

I'm still going to put my UDS together at some point, but I'll use this until then.

i've got one identical to this and love it, pretty much set it for the day and no baby sitting:thumb:

I got a charcoal one for free from the guy down the street and his 22.5 weber. I already built my UDS so i have not put much work into the GOSM. Will start that in the next few weeks.

Do you put wood chips in the bottom pan and water in the top pan?
Looks like it should cook some food for you . . . Good luck with it . . .

Yes, the bottom is a cast iron box with lid for wood chips/chunks. The top is a water pan.

A light cleaning this weekend made the inside look like new. Gave it a light coat of pam and fired it up. Let it roll for about 2.5 hours to season. Looks like it had more use from the seasoning run then it did when I got it. Biggest problem I had with it was I could only get it down to about 250. Of coarse that was using the thermo on the door....

i wouldn't trust the gauge on the door, mine is about 50 degrees off. Also, paly with the vents especially the top one

Not a bad price for a Big Block!

I had the GOSM 3605, and it was a good learners pit for me, but too small for a lot of meats. Foil is your friend in a GOSM!
