• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

OK guys, this is my first post on here. Looking to buy a vertical smoker, have looked and looked and researched about every model out there. Not looking for a big competition smoker just for family and friend cooks. point me in the right direction. Want something that does not have a lot of temp variation if possible.

Welcome from SC. This is a great site with lots of really good folks who are always eager to share their ideas and tips. All you have to do is ask and keep reading. I'm sorry, but I don't know anything about vertical smokers. I see that you have already gotten several tips and I'm sure that you'll get more.

Good luck on your purchase and good smokin', Joe

Humphreys Battle Box sound just what you need. Kevin (smokinit) is a brethren member and Humphreys dealer/Humphreys expert can answer any of your questions! He is great to work with to find the perfect smoker for you with the right options.

I am here ask away. Check out all the Info in the sales and venture section under Northeast Professional BBQ/ Humphrey Smokers

Humphreys, spicewine, pitmaker, backwoods

All make a vertical that fits what you're looking for.

Welcome! Lot's of nice pits around. You will get alot of opinions too!!!!

Everyone is going to recommend what they bought. Just human nature. It works for them so they like it. Just stick to the major builders with good reputations. Think about what and how much you cook. Narrow it down and then compare specs. Or you can just go with the one that is calling to you.:becky: good luck with your decision.

Disclaimer - I own a Battle Box.

I purchased mine after researching cookers for about a year. Was going back and forth between Humphrey's and an Assassin. Ended up calling Chad at Humphrey's and he spent about a half hour answering all my questions. Turns out he had a customer change his mind on his BB and order a Pint so I was able to purchase one without going on the wait list. I am very happy with my decision.

Things I have learned - The BB is great at holding temp. I live in SoCal so it doesn't get very cold but I set my digiQ @ 275 and it stays there. Opening the door will cause it to drop 10-15 degrees depending on how long it's open but it bounces back in just a few minutes. @275 with a full load of KBB it will run for 12 hours no problem.

I ordered the tall cart with mine. Regardless of what brand you purchase, this was the best investment I made. No bending over to spritz meat. Your racks will be at waist to chest height making it very easy to quickly check on things.

When researching make sure you think about clean up. Is it easy to remove the firebox? Does it have a water pan? If not where do the drippings/grease go? Also consider how easy is the unit to move. The BB with cart weighs about 350lbs. With the big wheels it rolls easy enough but if you plan to move the cooker you purchase take that into consideration. I didn't. It takes 3 people to move mine from my back yard (stairs and corners) to the driveway when I go to comps. Now it lives under my carport and when I cook at home it makes it a pain hiking around the side yard carrying food. Easy to load for comps but no longer is the super convenient backyard cooker.

I guess I will have to buy another one to solve that problem;-) List out your requirements and then compare what each brand offers. Buy the one that meets those requirements and looks the coolest. That's the real reason to buy something.
