• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Santa brought a nice 10" Lodge cast iron skillet and a 5 quart Dutch oven. I'm still relatively young in my culinary journey and am fired up to use these things but have no idea what to make in them. Any ideas???

We use our 10 inch skillet for corn bread, the internet will give you hundreds of options for the dutch oven.

Bacon is a good thing to cook! After that, use the skillet to sear a couple of steaks and the DO to make a nice stew or soup!

As said before...bacon is always good.

A nice Mixed Berry Cobbler! Thats what a dutch oven is for IMO :)

Excellent! And Merry Christmas to everyone!

It says it is seasoned already and doesn't need anything special to start. I just so happen to have some bacon laying around so that going to be the first thing going in the skillet this morning.

There's so many dire warnings about how to properly care and season these pans.

By all means season it first, If the oven is on today make use of it start the first and second layers of seasoning if you want.

Why not make a pot of chili in the dutch oven, and a skillet cornbread in the fry pan....... Use both at once.

Just not fish or anything acidic (tomato sauce).

I usually season it in a gas grill then cook up some cheap bacon. I clean it up then add another oil layer before putting it away.

Have seen a very sad looking pan after someone did srambled eggs in a CI pan. Don't know if was the pan, operater or just not a thing to do.

The good news is even if you make a mess of the thing, it is built like a tank and could likely be revived. I have saved a few from disaster in the past.

Scrape away, scrub away, and just re season the sucker. Rare to find one beyond saving.

Yessir, always bacon.

The preseasoning is not bad, but, it isn't as good as bacon. In both pans. Then do something in the Dutch oven such as a nice stew. It all helps work the iron into great cooking shape.
