• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I finally got tired of trying to cook steaks on my electric GennAire grill and invested in a Large Big Green Egg. I was stunned by all the accessories that you can buy for this grill. Naturally, I loaded up with just about everything they had to offer.

I've watched several YouTube presentations regarding the BGE and now it's time to fire it up and give it a try. I'm a a bit imtimidated right now but sure it will pass with some practice.

I'm off to the local grocer to buy a couple huge steaks for this madian voyage. I'll report back with the results.

Pickup Ribeyes and let me know what times dinner, I'll bring the beer

Congrats on the BGE.

Congrats on your purchase!

Hopefully a couple of the extras you bought, were a pizza stone and CI grate. Many of the bells and whistles they offer, I never found a use for...sometimes simple is better.

Enjoy!

Congrats. I switched to the Kamado world 4 years ago and must say that I am in love with these cookers. Low maintenance and great results. You will not hit stick burner smoking status, but man the versatility will wow you

Congrats! I started with a kamado, still have it actually and they're awesome cookers. Can't beat the fact that you've got most all of the accessories. :thumb:

Congrats on the purchase. I bought a Kamado this spring and love it. No, it isn't a stick burner, but it does a lot of things my stick burner can't do.

I have had my ceramic cooker for a little over a year. You will love the versitility. Low and slow or a hot grill. Great pizza cooker too. Good luck

Just be aware. Look at what causes it, how to prevent it and you'll be fine. I've had one pretty good one in my Primo --never in my Egg-mini.

The BGE is the ultimate backyard cooker - Hands down. It does everything. Good luck with you maiden voyage and please post pics!

Congrats on your new purchase! Having a Kamado was a game changer for me. I actually sold my 22 WSM after a couple of rib cooks on the Kamado, they were significantly better.

If you plan on doing a lot of high heat cooks, you might want to consider a high temp resistant gasket. Eventually the stock ones will crispify, but again, only if you are doing a lot of high temp cooks. The Naked whiz has a great how-to guide:

First Big Green Egg Cook

I just bought a BGE as explained in an earlier post. NY Strips were on sale so that's what we went with today. I used Red Oak lump as my fuel source and Motreal Steak seasoning on the meat.

I was absolutely amazed how fast the BGE heated to 600F. I cooked 3 minutes on each side followed by 1 minute on each and during the last minute added seasoned butter. This method was based upon a YouTube I watched.

Following are the results....
