• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Reposting in Qtalk from Woodpile...

I'm looking to add a damper vent on the bottom drum opposite the door for a better draw. I was thinking the easist way would be to slap on a spin-type damper vent like from the top of an old Weber. Any of you SoCal brothers have a bastardized parts grill that you'd be willing to part with the damper lid??

Can get you a 1" or 1 1/2" ball valve. Could put nipple in and screw it on.

EBay my brother. You will find deliverance there...

I have an exrta damper from my CG you have to flatten aspot to put it on.

I described how to make a square vent here:

My method assumes you've got a metal cut-off blade for a grinder or circular saw. Making a more traditional round vent requires different tools to make large round holes. Either way requires some special tools. Square was easier for me. The only extra tool I needed was a 7.5-inch cut-off blade that cost less than $2.

DDT, I may hit you up the next time I roll up to Ventura to see big Bro Smoke. Thanks to all you Masters of the Obvious for the Ebay/internet suggestions! I've found them on several sites, but I'm trying to find a freebie! Mark, I was checking out your idea before. Looks good, but I don't know if I need to get that "fancy". I like the work though!

Given what I had to work with, it wasn't fancy. It was expedient. Plus, having a grinder with a cut-off blade for making drum smokers means that you will also have a grinder for attaching a wire wheel (or wire cup) to for cleaning up barrels after they've been "burnt-off" the first time.

Anyway, that was my logic. And you can get a pretty good grinder for $30.
