NB Hondo Deluxe

Has anyone ever used the Hondo Deluxe. The metal finish is no smooth but textured. The grill grates are cast iron. I would like to know if anyone has had any problem with the fininsh or is it more durable than the paint on the normal Hondo model. I am also thinking of installing as gas burner off of an old charbroil gas grill. I think it will fit right on the right side of the grill. Also any thoughts on moving the thermometer. The lid handle runs the whole length of the lid. There is no room to mount it at grill level.

Hey Jay, good to see another from Conroe here. I have looked at that grill for a friend wanting to buy at the local Academy. I DON'T like it vrs. the old Hondo. To me it is a result in mass production, with more replacement parts.

It is still a nice grill. Guess it goes back to the question on what you are going to use it for? Don't understand the addition of the gas burner... are you talking as a fire starter or a part of the grill? I don't know if I would modify it that much. As far as a thermometer..I would suggest just going with a dual probe digital... again, don't think I would attempt modifying because of my skill level with these type pits.

Jay, you might ask Phil, our site administrator. He has a Hondo and might be able to give you some good info on how it cooks, etc.

one of the first versions of this i used for three years then it rusted out but i did an lot of learning on it

now i have moved on i look back it is an good learning smoker for the price
