My uds is so ugly flies don't even come around. Not really. Nothing can keep the flies away.

I have decided to decommission my first build after a few years of service.

In loving memory.

Enough of that lets get on with the new build.

Cliff,I like your new drum. I have a couple of questions. Are those magnets on top of the intakes, if so how well do they work? Also, the grill bottom you cut the rim off of. How was that used? thanks!

It's not old, or ugly... just "distinguished". My first UDS started out as an old barrel collecting rain in my backyard. I found 3 dead squirrels in there when I went to re-purpose it after finding this site. I've never painted it. I call her "Rusty".

Those magnets are from Lowe's and they have worked perfectly.

How to deal with the lid on a closed head drum has had me perplexed for some time. The dome lid would just almost fit but.....not quite. I tried banging the lid flat and re shaping it but I wanted to try something else.

I cut the lip off of a Big Lots $30 grill with an angle grinder. It sets on the raised lip that I formed from a pc of 1/8" x 1-1/4 flat steel. It works but it is not perfect. I may just set the lid on the raised flat steel and achive just a good of a result.
