My pecan turned Blackish

Why did the ends of my pecan logs turn an ugly blackish. Will it affect my smoke. Do I need to keep my next batch in the garage?

black is ok.. its water stained. Let it dry good and its fine.

But..... If the wood becomes spongy or starts growing white mold/fungus throw it in the fireplace, but not in the smoker.

And make sure your flue is open.

If your wood turns blue, you're squeezing it too hard.
