Hello Brethren!

As a BBQ newb (or whatever the BBQ term is for me), I was wondering if there is a "must read" (as in a published book) on grilling, smoking and BBQ? I'm thinking about stopping by the bookstore sometime this week. Naturally, I will be cruising the board and have already learned a few things in my short time here.

So far, I learned what a fatty is and what 3-2-1 means, although I would like a temperature setting for my Traeger for the 3-2-1 method. I found the internal meat temp for ribs, but not grill temp.

Thanks,
Tony.

I can't tell you about a must read book or two as I am self-taught largely. But, I have found that 225F for ribs rarely disappoints.

I found the members of this group will give you great advice. Someone is alway online when you need help.
My ribs are cooked at grill temp 250 - 275F, on my drum, or OTS.

As far as reading goes, you can't go wrong with Dr. BBQ's Big-Time Barbecue Cookbook, or any of Rays other books, all winners in my opinion, (and on my book shelve).

Ok--I've wanted to ask for some time. What do the brethren think of Steven Raichlen and the BBQ University show on ? the Create channel. He wrote a Barbecue Bible etc. Just curious.

Who cares what our opinion is. Do you like Raichlen's Recipes?

I do. But I also think Rachel Ray is doable.

My mom taught me that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all

Ignore the books...

As stated above, all you need is KCQuer's Roadmap. You find it at the top of this forum. This is not an understatement. If you read and study it, not only can you improve your own product, but you can answer 90% of the questions that people post. It really is that good.

Good luck!

Patio Daddio said Serious BBQ by Adam Perry Lang is really good. I have it and like it. But as previously posted there are some real good books by some of the Brethren.

And ask, ask, ask. BTW Welcome.

Hey Tony,

I'm relatively new too. However, I never bought a book or any kind of how-to. Just keep up with this site and you'll be perfectly fine. I credit everything I know to this site. It's helped me tremendously.
Trial and error and this site go hand-in-hand.
No book could ever match the capabilities of this website.
If you have a question, ask it- no matter how stupid it may sound to you.
Hope all the suggestions and advise helps you out.

Keep Grillin'
Tim

I have been using "Smoke and Spice" for about 8 years now. Of course, I have favorite rubs and mops that I use (with a few tweaks, of course). But it does have a lot of good info. And if you can't find it in "Smoke and Spice", you can't beat the Brethren. :peace:
