• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I have a good amount of Mulberry from a couple of trees I cut down last year that I was planning on using for the fire pit but am now wondering if it would be good for smoking… Has any one used it for smoking??? What type of flavor does it give to the party? Is it similar to any other ‘normal’ smoking woods? I’ve got 5 slabs of spares (plus tips and skirts) to do tomorrow and was thinking of using it.

Thanks for the help

PS… What about grape vine? I’ve heard that you can use this too for a light smoke but could use some reassurance…

I've used mulberry once and I wont use it again. I thought it gave the meat a bitter flavor.

Reported to be a good, mild, smoking wood here:

I used to have an old home with a huge den.
Totally paneled in "tongue and grove" Mulberry from trees on the property.
Very light in color and weight.

Try it and see

Man, that thread went down hill fast and Bill wasn't even part of it...

Thanks for the heads up... I've always been a little nervous to use it because it grows so fast (pine mod)... If I have time tonight, I'll burn a stick or two just to see how it smells... Any one else used it???

By the way, thanks again Mary....:mrgreen::mrgreen:

If I recall, RonL and Parrothead used mulberry when I pit-bitched for them at Lambs Farm last year.

We used mulberry at the midwest bash a couple of years ago. Awesome smelling stuff!

I have used mulberry quite a bit and never had any problems with it.

Mulberry deteriorates fast so you better start using it. Grape is awesome and really not that light

What?

Did I miss something?

Mary hasnt even posted to this thread????

I think mulberry is awsome for smoking it gives off a good sweet flavor and I dont recall it being bitter. Some have said the same thing about the bradford pear and I also think it is great to smoke with.

I've used some mulberry this last year. Sweet stuff. I'd mix it with some oak. A little goes a long way.

I agree with Plowboy. A little goes a long way. It's a good accent wood. It smells like cotton candy when it burns.

Never used any mulberry... smoked quite a bit of grape vine when I was a kid. I'm still alright (I think anyway) so I would give it a go.

I use Malberry all the time with great results. I have used it on all kinds of meat and fish and never had a problem. Just my 2cents

Time for an update…

I found some Wild Cherry:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen: so I didn’t use the Mulberry this time but I still have a slab that’s ready to go this weekend so I'll use it then

Thanks for all the info…
