YIKES!!!! 9 lb. butt has been on the UDS for 2 hrs. UDS is rocking along 225-230 and meat temp is 128. Now I have gotten word that I need to be setup somewhere else. I have a covered pick-up and some help loading and unloading it.

Is it possible to move a UDS while in use? I only need to go about 15 min. away.

Thanks
Ronnie

Funny I have thought about this before. If you are going to do it you probably should cut the air intake so the fire chamber is not super charged while driving. I guess the only issue is how to keep it from tipping over and also from burning the bed of your truck?

It might not be a bad idea to get the meat into a cooler while doing this move and dump your coals. Then restart when you get to the new location. It seems that you are still in the safe zone with the meat being that you are still under 4 hours. I believe a rule of thumb is at 140* with in 4 hours. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sounds dangerous either way. Do you have a fire extinguisher?

Never thought about trying, but if someone holds drum and you drive like 5 mph, hmm! I still don't know if it'll work but only one way to find out:becky: You could restart fire like big brother smoke states, but I'd do a high high cook, they turn out great.

I have done some stupid stuff in my life, so I am not above trying to move a lit UDS in a pickemup. But, common sense says if it is only a 15 minute drive, take out the meat, wrap in foil and cooler. Then dump and move, relight and be safe.

Choke down the air and go for it!

Ok, I only say that because I wan't you to try it and let us know how it goes, but Vince probably has it right ... cooler it and start over... if you have a metal ash bin with a tight fitting lid you might be able to dump your fire in that, so you don't have to start cold...

Sorry, no video or pics. A line of tornadic storms came through so the move was only about 100 ft. so it was a lid band and hand truck move. If there is a next time, I will take all suggestions into consideration.

Thanks y'all!
