• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Whew....been a busy month, so getting the mods done took longer than expected, but we're ready to season our Bandera.

the extra time, however, has gotten me a little antsy and wanting to actually cook something!

think i can throw a fatty on while i season the grill?

I know it's tempting, but I wouldn't. If your Bandera came like my past couple cookers(BSKD and Chargriller) it is coated with a sticky grease/wax like product to retard rusting. Don't think that stuff would be all that good to ingest. I could be wrong, but I'd rather err on the safe side.

I was quite anxious when I got my last offset too. What I did was complete the seasoning burn, remove the coals, open up the cooker to allow it to cool and built another fire and started cooking ribs, they turned out fine.

thanks for the replies

perhaps i should add that i bought this used

should i still wait?

Smoke on. I was just concerned with the factory grease crap. I season mine with oil about every third of forth cook, the grates every time, and don't wait for anything. This morning I wire brushed the rust from the firebox and greased her up. The cat's were licking the criscoe off the dang thing until I tossed a chimney of coals in.

If there were no funky smells, or signs of anything growing in there you should be fine. Just to be safe I'd crank the heat up hot enough to kill anything the other owner may have let get started. If you don't get any strange odors you should be good. Give the grates a good cleaning/brushing and you should be good to go.
