I would also suggest putting some vegetable oil (2 TBSP) in the bottom between uses to keep the rust down.

i just let it run for a few minutes filled with first hot water and dish soap, then clear water and a cup of bleach... clear water again and let it air dry.
havent seen any nasties in there yet. The disposal is all stainless steel.. (looks it anyway... )...
