• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I did a little looking with search, didn't find what is was looking for. I am asking because i have the Egg now. What brands and retailers do you find your lump charcoal at? WM has the Royal oak for $5.97. I was at Sam's this morning and saw Kingsford Char-wood for $ 19.96 for four 10 pound bags. I have also purchased B-n-B at Wallie world. The egg dealer has several kinds. What have been your experiences with different brands and retailers??

Check out your local Roofing Center believe it or not. Roofers us lump to heat tar, thus Roofing Centers carry it. I get 20lb bags for just at $9 a bag.

I saw some at Lowe's. I saw some plans how to make your on the net. Didn't seem to hard to make your own if you had a free wood supply

Smart and Final or Restaurant Depot both carry lump (In Cali at least). $9 - 13 for 40 lbs.

The Lowe's near me carries the Cowboy brand of mesquite lump. Not a big fan of Cowboy, it throws a lot of sparks.

Don't know if you have a GFS nearby, but they have Royal Oak in a 20ish lb bag for about $10. Also have 43 lb (total) Kingsford briquette 2 packs for about $14.

I've used the Kingsford Charwood before and thought it was garbage IMO. Was like a fireworks show it gave off so many sparks. Also burned hot, but burned out real quick as well.

I make my own (lots of free oak) or when I am too lazy to make it I use the BGE (Royal Oak). If you have the wood, a spare 55 gallon drum, and a 30 gallon drum making your own really isn't that hard. It takes a little time but what you get is top quality. If you need the directions email me and I will send them to you.

Amen on the Kingsford Charwood. I was very unimpressed with it. I stick with the Royal Oak from Wally World at $5.27 per 10# bag.

I looked at my local GFS, and all I saw there were Kingsford briquets and another off-brand briquet.

the Royal Oak is about the most consistent I've found in our neck of the woods. You might check with Ty since he's one of you eggheads:lol:

All the roofers around here use propane.

Wal-Mart seems to be fairly consistent with the Royal Oak...I pick up a few bags on occasion whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

I swore I replied yesterday.

I've been real happy with B&B. I stocked up at WM before Christmas stuff took over. I'm happy with the lump sizes, and havn't found rocks, wire or other things found in some bags of lump. WM carries the 10lb bag for like $5. I can't remember what brand the dealer in Southlake on 114 carries. I do remember that it rated higher than BGE brand on the NakedWhiz site.

I noticed this morning the WalMart put out a full pallet of B&B and has started reclaiming the outdoor cooking section from the Christmas decorations.

I picked up a bag of royal oak lump and a bag of B&B to compare saturday.
