• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Fernandi...
We are having a birthday party today for one of my coworkers. I was asked to bring pulled pork (imagine that). Fired up the UDS last night about 9:30. Let her settle in at about 230 degrees. Put the butts on at 10:30. Went to bed with the Nutemp monitor beside the bed. I woke up a couple of times and looked at the monitor but all in all I slept like a baby. I got up at 5, foiled the butts, and went back to bed. Looks like I can cooler them in about 30 minutes or so...

I swear I feel like I am cheating...

Gator- Which lid are you using? The Weber or the drum lid? I can't figure out how some people aren't turning their meats? It seems a lot of flat lid users don't turn. I get a good crust going but I'm afraid if I don't it'll be dogmeat! I've noticed that I get a lot of carbon flakes on the inside of the Weber lid-which isn't a bad thing since it lets me know the that the direct heat and the fat dripping on the coals is producing a good amount of moisture. I'll have to use the flat lid more often.

We are cheating!

Lol on the cheating... it sure does feel like it. I guess I am too used to playing with the Dera.

I am only using the Weber lid. I have never finished the flat lid as I didn't see any need to.

As for the turning the meat... I just never have. I get a really good bark all the way around. The ones I did last night were gorgeous (Sorry no pron... I pulled them at work and didn't want others to know how wierd we all are).

Yes the drum makes life easier!

I am tempted to buy a weber just to get the lid.

You can call Weber and give them a story about losing the lid and they will sell you one for about $55. I think it makes more since to buy the whole thing a Wally World for $89. Then you have the lid and the cooking grate. You also end up with a great grill for beer can chickens, burgers, brats and such. if you put a coffee can under the charcoal grate to raise it up the Weber Kettle also cooks some outrageously good steaks.

Go for it bro...

I also have a weber that I don't cook on much but I set my fire basket on the charcoal gate, stuff some papers under it and lite up my charcoal, works great. Plus I have a place to set my lid when dealing with my meat.

It would be grill number 5. They wife already thinks I am crazy. Especially since I am liking the UDS the best and it cost way less than 1/2 of any of the others.

I'm gonna be selling my chargriller. I need the space for the second barrel.

But honey... it really isn't another grill... it is just parts for one I already have... (Wife explaination mod)

I'd keep the chargriller for old times sake but I really don't have the space. It was either the chargriller or the kettle and the kettle doesn't leak and it's easier to clean (and transport).

After awhile you just kind forget how many you have and rationalize that they all have their purpose, whether for parts or cooking, but when someone asks how many I have my wife is always quick with the answer!
She just shakes her head when I'm dragging something home.

I was outside working on my new UDS (final burnout today, install everything tomorrow). Out comes my wife to let out the dogs, looks at me working on the drum, then looks at all the other grills, then looks back at me, rolls her eyes and shakes her head laughing as she walks back inside.
I hope she understands that I must tinker with and modify everything I own.

I wanted to use my new UDS at the Autry this weekend but I didn't have time to test it. Plus the spray paint ran. (MrsMista just laughed and said you obviously never did graffiti. You can't even paint right.) I'll need at least two more cans to fix up my mess. That's what I get for wanting a blue barrel.
