• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Is the mav et 732 still the go to thermometer now days? Is there something better? I would like the grate probe to have a clamp / teeth so it can securely fit onto my grate. I don't like the type that true probe sticks through a clamp that then stocks loosely on a grate. Any recommendations? Thanks

igrill was recently acquired by Weber and i have a feeling they will be coming out with a new version very soon, at least i hope :)

You won't go wrong with a Maverick, the iGrill looks pretty handy with Bluetooth. I found that the wireless transmission of my Maverick a bit spotty occasionally, but I rarely use the monitor anymore so it's not another.

I have a Maverick and a Flame Boss. I still use the Maverick on cooks where I just need to monitor the temps. It works well, but the wireless reception and range are spotty at times.

I've got one 732 and two 733's. I try to treat the cables/probes VERY carefully and they work great for me. I have found that I need to have a clear line of sight from the transmitter to my kitchen window, about 15-20 feet, to get steady reception on the receiver. If the metal from the smoker is in the way it seems to decrease the range dramatically.

I really like them. I have yet to find any other remote monitoring device although I didn't know about the iGrill.

Isn't there supposed to be some fancy, magical, unicorn of a device that consists of just the probe and then send out the signal via another dimension to a smart phone or something?

I have 2 Mavericks and use the heck out of them. Its true that they can be a little temperamental...some folks have signal problems, though I never have...and you have to handle the probes pretty gently, they're a little delicate. Lots of other options out there nowadays, so I don't know if Mav is still the "go to" choice, but I've always been satisfied with mine.

The et732 works great for me. I get much better range from it than anything Bluetooth powered.

I use an Ivation Wireless Thermometer, uses the same probes as Mavericks and I have the iGrill Thermometer too.

The iGrill is a great wireless one, I've wasted a lot of money on less expense unite on amazon.

I use the 732 and I love it. i have had the same one for years and use it a few times a week, even if just to monitor the temp of my primo. I only have reception issues if I am hundreds of feet away and behind several doors in my house. The probes finally broke and I was suprised that they were about $25 to replace.

I'm happy with my 732, it does what I need it to. Last time I checked, Todd at A-Maze-N Products offered a great deal on it in a package with his tube smoker. I paid a little more and got the package with the maze. Just in case you're interested in getting into cold smoking.

I've used the Maverick and currently use the iGrill2. I really like it, especially since it has 4 probe slots (initially comes with 2 so have to buy a couple more). I can occasionally lose bluetooth connection to it but not any more than I did with the Maverick (the connection in general, I know the Maverick isn't bluetooth).

With the Maverick I tended to leave it on a table and just check when needed. That was fine for when I was mostly staying put, but if I was out working on something it would be a bit more of a pain. I didn't really want to keep it on me since it's a little bulky and I didn't want to break it.

With the iGrill2 I can always check it on my phone unless I'm out of range. The only time I don't like this is if I'm watching TV I can't just look down to check the temp, I have to click a button on my phone (life's rough, right?).

I love my Tappecue and I can even monitor my temps when I go into town .
