• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Look at what I finally found to cook

If I Don't get too busy with call outs this cook starts Saturday evening. If I get too busy this cook starts Saturday evening, Owner out of town til Wednesday.

Fresh oysters in June? I have always heard never eat oysters in months that don't have an "r" in the name. You can't even find them at the seafood dist around here this time of year, and we are right on the east coast.

You forgot the r Juner:biggrin:

I agree! I have always heard the "R" rule.

Unless it's going to kill me, in the smoker them farkers is going to go and then my stomach. If I dont post after Saturday, you all can say you warned me and I didn't listen.  Besides why wasn't this mentioned two weeks ago when I started my search, Brothers looking out for Brothers MOD:confused:

Roast em on the Weber dude. Thats what we do (in November). As soon as they pop open, take me off, scrape em out, dredge em thru butter and suck em down. Put a drop of Tobasco on each if you like. I just like lemon squeezed on mine.

Jacob, I don't know what all the fuss is about, Junember has an R in it!
We have it sold alive, now back here. The way I like it is in a small bowl,...combine soy sauce, lemon juice, tobasco. Throw oysters on the grill, when they open, spoon some of the sauce and let it cook in the shell for a little, then bottomes up!

Word to the wise, if any of them don't pop open on the smoker do not, I repeat DO NOT open them yourself and eat them anyways. That is definitely not a fun experience.

I can speak from experience.
I have not had a raw oyster in 5 years.

I was in Louisiana in April and had a couple dozen.
I got sick -(real sick) and the next day when I finally got to
the Doctor it was determined that I had so much bacteria
in me that he started questioning me on what I ate.

So much for that......
Ask A True CAJUN....
The month might have an "R" in it but never eat the 1st or the last month
with the "R"
I will live by that no matter what anyone says.

Thirdeye, Help me out with some of those awesome pics you take, I'm sure you have some of oysters. These guys are starting to scare me a little.

Eating fresh oysters after the water starts to warm up is like playing russian roulette. April through september there off limits to me.

Shuck them babies out and make you some Gumbo!

Takes all of the "hazards" out of eating them.
You can eat gumbo on all days that have a "Y" in them.

There is actually other food other than BBQ. I don't like to tell everybody but fried seafood is great too!

The recipe I have they are basically going to be baked on the smoker, After they pop open the ingredents are added and the put back in for a while. Wouldn't this remove any danger? Speaking seriously I can't afford to get sick no more than I can afford to discard forty bucks worth of oysters.

u will be fine if u cook them , just don't get greedy and open the ones that don't pop open. the scare is from eating them raw and shucked, you never know the bads one that way

Newbie is correct... at least that is how I do it... If they are cooked you can eat em anytime.

Raw oysters are one of my favorite foods and I eat a LOT of them. But I do follow the R rule... In September and April I don't eat any Florida or Louisiana oysters either... in those months I eat ones are from the northeast.

BTW those shrimp look very nice... Are the Key West pinks?

Anybody hear from Jacob?
Could be a JFK/Princess Di. controversy.
Was it the Oysters or the wife that got him?

I'm here Brother, I had to postpone oysters until today, High blood sugar levels put me down yestersay. I did manage to get the butter mixture made up and the shrimp are about to go in the rum mixture for a little soaking before the grill. Good or bad I will post pics of my results.

Keep talking like that and I'll be firing them up too!

Wow that sounded tasty.

I'm sure june ends with an r in some language of the world.
