• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

bought a new smoker the other day....also bought some homebest charcoal.....after a rather unsuccessful cook due to temp problems..went ahead and did the smoke stack mod and the baffle mod, a test burn later, still low temps, would hardly get to 195. After much head scratching, went out and bought some Kingsford, did a test burn. new toy heated right up, leveled off at 238...all is good now!!! also found out how far off my thermometers were, tested side by side with my fluke meter......gonna use the fluke from now on.

the homebest and the kingsford were side by side....same price...homebest gave you 2 pounds more for the same money....in retrospect....twas not a bargain!

My experience with the new Kingsford is that it does burn hotter, but does not last as long. I have switched to Duraflame, as it seems to burn much like the old K.

We have "best choice" brand - and it is a dead ringer for Royal Oak. I also use the "best Choice" lump -- have yet to find any junk in the bags (tongue and groove, etc). Sounds like your Homebest has too much filler?

$3.49 for a 20lb bag briquettes/10lb bag of lump.
