• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Cherry Kool-Aid? How much did you add to the jar?

Picnics are $.99 lb at Albertsons up here.

Ok share the info! Could be a great Haloween treat, Bloody pickles.
Always liked Fried Pickles
Deep Fried Pickles

1 cup cornmeal 2 eggs, beaten 2 1/4 cups flour 1 cup milk 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce 1 teaspoon salt 3/4 teaspoon pepper 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 quart sliced dill pickles vegetable oil salt pepper

Combine 2 eggs, 1/4 cup flour, milk, worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder; stirring well; set aside.
  1. Combine cornmeal, 2 cups flour, salt, and pepper, and mix well.
  2. Dip drained pickles into milk mixture and dredge in flour mixture.
  3. Deep fry at 350 degrees until golden brown.
  4. Drain, salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Also works great with pepperoncinis!

Pour the juice out of the pickle jar into a bowl. Add 1 pkg unsweetened Strawberry or cherry koolaid, 1 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar. Mix well. Pour back into the jar. Close it and put it in the fridge for a couple of days. Discard the rest of the juice.

And Pat, as you can tell, Morgan likes the bib you gave her!

i made them and sold em at a comp last month....people were like what the fark is that....they are tasty

Mista,

I also saw that episode, and we are making the dills with some destined for the red stuff! When Alton was selling the coolicles to the kids, you can see my little girl's school in the background.

Have you made the plain dills yet, and if you did, what did you think?

I don't know guys... Cheery or strawberry dill pickles just doesn't sound good to me.

Did you ever stick a peppermint stick in the middle of a big dill pickle?

Kinda what I'm thinking. But ya know, for the $2 it's going to cost to try - what the hell. I'll give it a try. Lime kool-ade is my favorite. Wonder what limepickles taste like...

As soon as I seen Alton Brown try these on FOA, I knew I would have to try them. I haven't made any yet but plan too. They look great Bigmista!

Nope but she ate them when she was a kid like most of the folx I know. Maybe it was a cultural thing. When I was growing up, there was always an old lady in the projects or around the corner from the school that would sell candy, chips, pickles, etc., from her house. In the summertime she would also sell Kool cups (Koolaid frozen in dixie cups) for a dime.

We would always go there and get great big dill pickles, bite the end (the booty) off the pickle and save it for last because it was the juiciest part. Then we would put a peppermint stick or Watermelon Now & Laters (if you don't know what those are, there is no reason for you to keep reading) in the middle of the pickle and suck on it on the walk home. We might also get a package of kool aid, pour some in our hand and dip the pickle in it. We would end with red hands, a red tongue and a big smile on our face.

I can't possibly be the only one...

LOL!!! What a great story :-P I've never heard of that before. I grew up in northern Ohio and remember making frozen Kool-Aid pops and eating those sugar coated watermelon (jelly) candies...but never anything like you just described. Guess I shouldn't knock it untill I try it!

It's funny. I guess we all have so much in common with our cooking that I forget we all have different backgrounds and childhood memories.

Not so different but, its the diversity that keeps this site going! BTW.....great childhood story:biggrin: I know we could all tell stories of the neighborhood idiot child that you could talk into doing something stupid:rolleyes::biggrin:

I'm going to have to give these a try! The wife has a cringe on her face - we'll see how it goes. Thanks for sharing BigMista!
