Does anyone have any preference between Kigsford charcoal briquettes and Royal Oak charcoal briquettes?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

I use Kingsford - partially because it's always available and I use LOT of it. Royal Oak would be ok if I could get it at the same price.

I havent seen Royal Oak in my area yet. We have Cowboy Natural Lump that Ive used and its ok. Im mainly a Weber griller and I love doing a 50/50 regular Kingsford/ Mesquite flavored Kingsford for grilling most anything. The mesquite flavor is not too strong by cutting it like that.

Haven't used royal oak brikettes in years, but the lump is just fine

I believe that the royal oak lump burns a little hotter, but there ain't nuttin wrong wit' dat.

I like Kingsford cuz they got a cute little K on them and work great in the WSM.

It's just difficult to get all of the "K's" to be facing up in the firebox!

RE: Re: RE: Kingsford vs Royal Oak?

Steve. briquettes burn more evenly, last longer, but lump is hotter with no fillers.

IMO, Royal oak lump is the way to go. Unless your using a WSM... then go with the briquettes to take advantage of the even heat.

RE: Re: RE: Kingsford vs Royal Oak?

I use kingsford along with cherry, apple, and maple wood at the beginning then its all wood after that.

RE: Re: RE: Kingsford vs Royal Oak?

I either use Kingsford with wood chunks or Best of the West Mesquite lump.

Depends on what's cheapest at the time.

I could have sworn the bag of Royal Oak said "charcoal briquettes, not lump wood. Does Royal Oak make regular charcoal?

Steve

OK...then thats what I saw at wally world. They had the Royal Oak charcoal briquettes for $7.50 for 40LBS vs the Kingsford charcoal at Home Depot at $12 for 48LBS. So which is the better deal?????

Kingsford.....it's cheaper and easier to find around here. Plus, it's what my daddy used when I was growing up. Just like Pennzoil vs. Quaker State....both fine products....just what u use to using.

No preference, usually have more kingsford around than lump. (before the move) Now since storage space is a problem I only grab 1 type or keep bags in the car. If I am going to smoke something for my benefit only, then it is the lump. If I am feeding the family, Kingsford is the first choice.

My preference is Kingsford.Since Wally World's been runnin' the special on Royal Oak I've been using it.I've been pleased with result so far.The briquettes are a little smaller than Kings ford but they still work fine.About the same burn time as far as charcoal size to burn time.

I don't smoke with charcoal because of the long time that the meat is exposed to the fumes coming from the filler material (coal). No prob grilling with it, but for smoking I use only wood or hardwood lump.
OTH, I use only charcoal when dutch oven cooking, because the number of briquettes are easy to adjust for specific temps.
