• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

What do they have kids cook in these and how much depending on age is the child responsible for. My 7 y/o daughter asked to cook in one and of course I said yes. Then I realized, I've never seen one or know what they have to do.

It's pretty similar to everything else in the comp but much easier meat. Usually the kids will do chicken wings or hamburgers or something like that. They get a turn in box and do have a turn in time. They need six pieces and get scored on appearance, taste and tenderness just like us pro's. It's fun, I love watching kids on their little Weber kettles goin at it on Saturday grillin some chicken wings...lol

The Kids-Q's are usually in 2 age groups. 5 - 10 and 11 - 15 The most common meats cooked are hamburgers, chicken wings, or hot dogs, but you may run across steak or sausage.

It depends on the contest how they have it set up. Some contests let the kids cook at their own "camp," others have the kids cook in a certain area all together. The kids are suppose to do everything they can do by themselves except for the "dangerous stuff", dependpent on their age.

I have a 6 yr who cooked all last year. She chose her own spices and marinades, Andy only advised her, she made decisions of what and how much. She prepped the meat, put it on the grill, turned it, sprayed it, made her own box, and put it in the box, and turned it into the judges. The only things Andy or I did was start the fire, open/close the lid and made sure she didn't burn herself. She told us when it was time to turn or spray.

Kaylin won her very first contest last year and place second in a few others. She loves it and can't wait for Platte City in 2 weeks. She was mad that she didn't get to cook Osage City this year because of the weather. Our younger daughter will start next year if she wants.

Tell your daughter good luck! I hope she has fun and gets good "dad time."

My nephew Kyle enjoyed Kids Q's last year. Unfortunately the only KidsQ in the Northeast is at New Holland. So this year he is taking charge of the Grilling/Backyard entries at the contests we enter. Thats what happens when they win (He was the first "Polock" to win).
Basically with KidsQ they do everything and the parents can assist with the fire (starting) and cutting with knives(dependant on the age). The catagories vary with contests. Last year Kyle cooked, Beef, Chicken and Chefs choice. He loved it and wants to be more involved this year.
