• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Kickstarter Grill reminds me of the 007

Interesting! Obviously you couldn't have a full flame down there (easily). That's the value of the 55 gallon drum. And you'll want a dome.

I seen one very similar at Home Depot a couple weeks ago.

New grill manufacturer trying to launch via Kickstarter. Some similarities to the 007 cooker I've seen on here.

The post is similar but that's about where it ends. This is more of like the fire pit swivels but much fancier, I sure like it though.

The 007 I initially made as a spin off addition to my wood burning roti Shenco smoke coined the "bird barrel" I wanted a way to feed the fire without needing a door and also smoke/grill above whatever I had on the rotisserie. Using mockups I figured out 3-4" above the cylinder was the sweet spot for my lid to not smother the fire and get clean burn then I went to DW for my first prototype.

I initially wanted the height adjustment for when I was using my new invention the Octoforks™ because with some setups the food was rotating out and above the cylinder so the swivel grate needed to be raised to accommodate. On a few occasions I would raise the swivel grate when not using the roti but not often. With this style of cooking the type and size of the fire is what determines if I'm grilling, smoking or in between and the hanging grate was for indirect cooking and to hold drip pans etc... and hold pans of beans, mac n cheese etc..

The 007 is definitely different to normal open fire pit cooking or Santa Maria style cooking but it's one of those things you have to experience first hand to completely appreciate, TedW, ninja, roguejim, iamuzzy would say the same thing i'm sure. It sure wouldn't be the same cooker without being able to use the dome lid. I love the way the convection exits below the food but the smoke, heat flow up around the dome to evenly cook the tops of the food while the infrared does it's thing on the bottom.

Rotisserie only when I first made just the rotisserie portion it got put to the test doing a chicken in 40mph sustained winds still cooking 350 plus....not too shabby using a real wood fire, something you could never do with an open fire pit.

I wonder who was 1st?
The swivel isn't a new concept by any means but the roti barrel I made a couple of years ago and the 007 last Summer.

The door for me has been a real blessing...Not so much for adding fuel (even though it helps) but as a way to more easily control the intake air. Prior to the door I had to open or close caps on the bottom and the lavalock door makes it way way nicer. It definitely added a new dimension to the 007, So much easier to manipulate the fire moving splits around and adjusting airflow for how much coal base is or isn't there is now a breeze....also opening the door is better for when you want to high heat grill, Most of the time though it's closed or a little cracked open.

Something I don't do often but is also unique is swing off part way and use the exhaust in the dome lid pointed outward to pull the heat over the food...either for cooking or warming, I call it offset mode. There's times when baking I want to keep an exact temp so it's been real handy for that stuff and the other night it sure came in handy to keep some stuff warm... Swing way out to only captured a little of the heat to keep some food in the 140-150* area.

Now with that door and the new top grate it could both grill (or rotisserie) and offset cook up in the floating lid area.

It's sorta cool - if you want a campfire that sits up on legs with swing-able grates.

I watched the video but there wasn't anything there that would make me throw KS money at them.

(The name doesn't do anything for me but that's purely subjective.)

The 007 on a drum is so simple and effective. I'm a big fan at this point.

You need the dome. This is a biggie. The grate is above the drum - another biggie.

I like the one form HD. I think it's a deal for $199
