• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Without rust... when I got my Lang over 3 months ago I wanted a cooker that is in a semi permanent area and dont want to hassel with a cover. I got a lot of advice here and wanted to share what I ended up doing that has kept rust away even during this heavy rain season. I hope some of you will find this information helful. Basically I spray every in of the cooker on the outside with pam every month and let it come up to 300 plus. By doing this I think it acts like a cast iron pan getting well seasoned. Regardless I have been able to keep it rust free without a sing speck.

Hmmm....okkkaaayyyyy....

I use the top of my firebox as a wood rack....

Looks good so far. Still think a breathable cover made out of something like Sunbrella will be better in the long haul.

I use a cover for a motorcycle on my smoker due to the odd shape of it. Covering it is good and bad. If you use it regularly, once or twice a week, it should be fine. Longer than that condensation will build up and be worst than it being uncovered. In the end I would assume longevity of any smoker comes with the quality of the exteriors finish.

This is my very dilemma. I want a nice offset trailer, but I'm not ready to move my car from the garage to the driveway. My truck is fine in the elements but not the car. I also don't want to leave the cooker in the elements. So, until I figure out this ordeal, ill keep waiting and being indecisive. Sucks to be me.

Any issue with moisture getting inside and mold?

One of my stepsons has an offset that he leaves out in the weather. I stopped by to see him one day and was shocked when I opened it up. Dang near solid mold and the ashes in the firebox were just a pile of gray yucky mud. It had only been about a week and a half since he cooked on it.

does it get get sticky? i've heard Crisco on a rag as the smoker cools, other say WD40 on outside and Pam on inside.....also heard Lin Seed Oil ?

the Triplets live outside uncovered........

There is a coating of some sort, but I would not say it is sticky. I also don't notice anymore dust stuck to it than usual.

I heard about the wd40 but i would not want to get any of it on my hand or utensils by accident. I can't stand the smell of garage tools near food lol

If you bring it up to the smoke temp of the oil you are using (about 420-450) and hold it there for 30+ minutes it will get nicely seasoned. Just like seasoning my cast iron pans and Blackstone griddle! And then let it cool untouched

Don't do WD-40. Turns it into a dust magnet.
