• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I know San Antonio is expecting 25,000 refugees from LA in the first wave and I am sure Dallas and Houston are getting at least that number.
I have an idea for a Texas bash, we get 4-5 of the brethren in each of the 3 cities together for a BBQ for some of these people. We might even get the grocery chains to donate some or all of the food. I figure we each could cook 50+ lbs of brisket each. I could house the San Antonio one. Any volunteers?

I would contact someone who knows what they are doing with this sort of thing. Chances are that they are already lining up food donations and such. Then offer your services to help out.

Absoutly: The guys with the ability to feed the masses are the ones to do this. The best we can do is sign up to work with them. They will be looking for and greatly appreciate anyone with cooking ability. Contact the Red Cross, Salvation Army or Second Harvest Food Bank. Second Harvest does not usually get directly involved in feeding programs, but they will know everyone who is, and who needs help.

Yes, it would be best to have one of the aid organizations involved. Still, I think it would need at least 4-5 of us at each location.

4 or 5 at a local shelter would be ok - at one of the major centers it'll take 40-50 teams with the big cookers. FBA did this in south central FL last season.

One thing you don't want to do is set up and run out of food when several hundred or thousands are in line.

I'm thinking we'll see the TX assocications getting something together.

For 25K people you'd need about 8500 pounds of meat - minimum. Not counting bread and a side or two.

RE: Re: RE: Katrina bash

I agree that we could not do anything in that type of scale, but I presume that most of the shelters would not accomodate more than a few hundred people. I do know we have some 400-600 students coming in from the Keesler Air Force base.

Great! Now if they have one here in San Antonio I will join in!
