• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Just wanted to say hi!

This is a real nice, informative, and friendly place you've all got here!!
I found this place about 3 weeks ago, on the same weekend I bought my Bandera.

I read and read for a few days and have done the baffle mod, the wheel mod... which I was forced to do first because the wheel fell off, and my 'Dera almost fell on top of me  and I bought and received a firebox from Spicewine!! :D Thanks again Spice, it is awesome!!! :D :D and have made a few attempts at smokin' with decent results, I learn a little more everytime I try... I still have trouble getting temperatures up and maintaining them, but I'll try again tomorrow...:)

I'm brand new at this.. I had a job transfer from So. California to the DFW area in Texas last year, so I figured I might as well learn how to do "REAL BBQ" instead of just grillin' on my gas Webber grill, so I talked to a few people, bought a Bandera at Home Depot, and found this place to start my new hobby!! :D :D

I'm more of a reader than a poster, but I do visit the boards almost everyday so I just wanted to stop and say Hi, and let you guys know how much I appreciate all the info and all the entertaining posts you have here!! :D :D

Welcome to the group. Don't be shy, grab a cold one and jump right in. POST POST POST and share both sucesses and failures. The brethren can cheer you on, or help you with tips and tricks. Where from So. Cal did you come?

Welcome my new brother!!

If you are having problems getting up to temp, try adding some lump charcoal. It burns hotter and quicker. Good luck and let us know if you need any help....we're all about helping a brother here!

Rookie,

Glad you finally spoke up! Glad to have you here! I'm in So. Cal and will probably be moving to Texas in about a year or so myself. Don't be bashful about posting. We love to hear about your triumphs and your mistakes. We all learn from both of them. Thanks again for posting and don't be a stranger!!

Welcome to our little part of the world.
Sometimes resembles a "looney bin", but it is home and we love it here

Low temps. My Bandera puts out more heat than I can use. I have burned pure sticks, lump, and Kingsford.
But--everytime I have had any problem with low heat--it has been AIRFLOW. Intake air restricted by ashes or otherwise, smoke box restricted with heavy load on one shelf (a huge packer brisket "bit" me and Chad one time), or something similar.
Do you have the firegrate lifted off of the bottom???? Most important MOD, followed by a smokebox baffle to spread/diffuse the heat.

Post away.

TIM

(this might deserve a "split" if we keep up the temp advice--IMHO)

Welcome, but give us a name.

After cook #1, the rookie thing will gone

Welcome, Tim is wrong this place IS A LOONEY BIN, but that is the only that he has been wrong about

HaHaHa:D:D, Wow! What a fast and friendly welcome!!:D

I came from Ontario California, I was born and raised about 15 minutes from Candlestick Park in the San Francisco Bay Area, then joined the Air Force and lived in Denver, England, and Las vegas then would up in Ontario for about 5 years before having to transfer to DFW last year (better than getting laid off) so far I like it here though which kinda surprised me... Homes are definately cheaper!!:D

I bought some "Cowboy" brand lump that I'll try tomorrow, maybe that will help me with temps...

Let me know if I can help in any way when you move to DFW Bigmista, I'll do what I can..

Thanks again for the welcome brothers!!! :D

Welcome to the board, and enjoy your Bandera. I have really had fun with mine.

Good to see another Metromess member. Where did you get your lump ?

Wow!!, the thing is... there are no Smart & Final stores out here... I used to see them everywhere back in Cali... I'm still new at this so hopefully I'll find better deals now that I'm noticing things like the price of wood, I never used to pay attention to things like that...

Welcome! I considered myself more of a reader than a poster before I hit this board, too, but something about this group brings out the poster bug (chatty farker mod?).

Welcome to the house. Have a problem ask a brother and get lots of answers. Glad to have you aboard and look forward to seeing you around.
