• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Just thought I would ask..

Anyone have a sauce receipe close to Blues Hog or Head Country that they feel is pretty close that they would like to share? I have a good sauce receipe, and I'm getting close, but I thought I would check and see what you all have come up with.

I have been told you can add grape jelly to almost any commercial bbq sauce and get close to Blues Hog. I have not tried it, but more than 1 person told me that.

Interesting, Things that make you go HHMMMM

I'd try raspberry jelly before I'd do grape. Or some tamirid paste.

I can buy Head Country for about $10 per gallon. I'll bet I can't buy the ingredients and make it for that price.

Blues Hog is a little more, but worth the price. If you knew Bill Arnold, I don't think you'd be asking to clone his sauce. He's a great guy and a single parent raising three young daughters. The guy is not getting rich making sauce. He may not be the best business man, but I think he's doing the best with the hand he's been dealt. Buck up and buy your sauce if you want Blues Hog or Head Country. Otherwise, get busy with your own original sauce idea. If nothing else, it will probably give you a new appreciation for the creations out there already.

I just ordered some Blues Hog and I know it will be well worth the cost. .... BUT ... I also understand the challenge of learning to make one or two extra-good sauces just to better understand what works and what doesn't. Same with rubs. I will just have to find the 'right' balance between buying for most of my needs (non-commercial / non-comp) and enjoying a few experiments. Grape jelly, raspberry, tamarind ??? ... now my curiosity is going again!

Calm down Rod, if you read my post I asked "Anyone have a sauce receipe CLOSE to Blues Hog or Head Countrythat they would like to share?"
I'm looking for ideas and diffrent tastes etc. I have my own sauce, nothing wrong with it and I love it, just trying diffrrent things and wanted to see if I could improve on what I have. Not looking to rip anyone off, Sorry if that was your perception of this, that was not my intention.

No big deal, If I had a friend I knew had worked hard to make a living and was bustin his hump and someone was looking to duplicate his efforts I would react the same way. Thanks for checking.

Blues Hog sauce is excellent. Knowing its helping out a smalltime operation makes it taste even better.

I buy Blues Hog routinely

Rod,

I understand what you are saying, and I agree with it all. I buy Blues Hog all the time, I just bought some product from fellow Brethren Plowboy. Besides my wife would kill me if I did not buy BH, she loves that stuff!!
