• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Got it at Academy for $199. Didn't realize it weighed 200lbs either! They loaded it into my truck and we went home. I slid it out of my truck, and whoa nelly! Pretty stout. Anyway, after nearly crunching my spine out of my back trying to get the firebox and smokestack on the frame (and before reading it was a two man job), I finally got her put together. The firebox lip closest to the smokestack was bent up a little, but nothing that a good set of pliers didn't fix.

I coated it in oil, fired it up (mesquite of course), and I'm just drinking beer and watching tv until the seasoning is done.

I'm glad I read Bandera 101 and expected the paint to peel. It's already peeled, no big deal.

Tomorrow I'll take out a brisket, and about 15-20lbs of wild hog. Let's see what this thing can do!

T'dog, when you cook tomorrow, fire code says you gotta have an open beer within reach of the cook! Best of Luck.

Congrats..!!

Guess I should tweek the 101 document a little bit to say that a load of charcoal is good enough for seasoning. also a little easier to walk away from and get a few hours. Around here mesquite is a comodity and wasting it on seasoning the pit to me would be a waste.. yeah, u TX'ns grow it like weeds...we have oak for that. also.. mesquite has a huge BTU output which would lend to the peel on first fire. but first, second.. who care.. its peeling. Glad you didnt go into cardiac arrest the way i did when mine peeled on the first cook.

Enjoy it... I think i hear a rack of ribs call you!

Cutting it down don't work noway. Ya need to rip it out A Cat D9 works pretty good.
