• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

It ain't Q but these sure were tasty!

From The Survival Gourmet

Last night I decided I wanted some wings.
Since I am on a mission to lose my waist, (see my Waist Loss blog) I knew I wanted to bake the wings instead of frying them. So the interesting part about them had to be the seasoning because there would be no crunch. Well, me being me, I was a little heavy-handed with the seasoning.
They came out just a little too spicy, just a little to garlicky, just a little too salty and just a little too good to stop eating them. Here is the recipe so you can make just a little too many wings.
Ingredients:
20 frozen wings/drummettes, thawed
1 tbsp seasoning salt (like Lawry’s) plus a little more
1 tbsp black pepper plus a little more
1 tbsp garlic powder plus a little more
1 tsp cayenne pepper plus a little more

2 tbsp vegetable oil

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
Put the wings in a bowl. Drizzle the oil over the wings and toss with your hands. (Fun, ain’t it?)
Mix all of the remaining ingredients together in a small bowl. Sprinkle the mixture over the wings and toss again with your hands. (Woo-Hoo! I’m easily entertained.)
Spray a baking dish with Pam or some other non-stick coating. Arrange the wings in the dish so they aren’t touching. Put the dish in the oven and bake fo 30-40 minutes or until they aer golden brown and delicious. Put them on a plate and eat. (The easy part!)

I've made em before with chicken breast tenders in the oven, turned out good. Just another way to watch your Waist Line.

Mista, I do wings like this but I actually marinate them in hot sauce first and then double cook them, once at 350 to cook them through (and render the fat from the skin) and then blast them in a 450-500 (convection) if you have it to crisp them up and then toss in my hot sauce mix. With a little practice they come out really good and crispy (also easy for a party because you can precook and finish/crisp them in minutes).

Wouldn't Olive Oil be better instead of the vegetable oil?
They look like they would be good though, Another step is to pay someone to keep me from eating all 20 of em.

looks great, we made up some wings just the other day shoulda took some pictures

Nothin' like a chicken wing! Looks good!

Although if I'm not gonna fry them, the default proposition is to grill 'em. You definitely make the oven look like a viable option, though . . .

Yup! Wings are simple and quick and they don't pack on the pounds.

It was just me. And I managed to save ten for lunch the next day. Wasn't easy...

Darn Neil sounds awesomly good eats. Just a thought here. I baked some chicken last week. I sprayed the pieces w/pam. I then sprinkled them w/lemon pepper and lowrys seasoned salt. Then I rolled the pieces in cornstarch. Threw them into a 350 degree oven. OMG the skin was so crispy my wife stated. Best baked chicken ever.
Anybody here ever try this mod? I will definately be doing this again for sure.

Mike

Mista, thank you for helping me decide what to make for dinner tonight. Just picked up a package of wings and I have got them in a cherry juice & hot sauce marinade getting ready. Mike, I have never tried cornstarch on them, I will try a few tonight (do you cook them on a rack?).

I did cook them on a pam sprayed roaster pan. Love to hear what you think of them.

Mista those look great! All this talk of wings.....I just think I'll have to fire up the hibachi and make a batch! I'll try to post pics later!

I always use some of my seasoning and grill my wings. Wife likes KC Masterpiece on hers and I use Stubbs "Inferno" Wing Sauce on mine. We cook wings about once a week.

I do something similar with a teriyaki or jerk marinade. Let it sit for 24 hours, then cook in the oven at 225-250 for 3 hrs. They all but fall off the bone. Last set I made for my Superbowl party vanished over a commercial break...

Mista, thanks again for the wing inspiration last night. I marinated them for a few hours, dried em off, light dry rub and onto a wire rack for 50 minutes at 325-350 (I flip them halfway). Pull from oven, brushed with Frank's wing sauce on both sides, crank up the oven to 450 and put them in for 5 minutes, flip 5 minutes and flip for 2 more. Needless to say they great and pretty crispy with a good little spice (I enjoy heat). Good stuff. Oh, and Bull (Mike) I forgot about the corntarch before I threw all the wings in the marinade, next time.
