• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Is it possible?

To find a decent upright cooker for around a 1000.00. Charcoal with a door on the front something basic nothing crazy.

How big? The Red Box smoker is just over $400 and Humphries has a couple of models around $1000.

I was thinking something big enough to lay some spare ribs in and a brisket comfortably. Maybe 24x24 ?

The Red Box may be OK, or may be a little small. I've never seen one in person. There are a couple of threads on here with pictures.

The redbox does seem nice for the money. I never realized how much these things got ive been using a UDS.

24x24 racks are huge. i have one with 17x21 racks and i can fit 2 12-14LB briskets on a rack. shipping is the biggest issue with keeping the price down.

The smallest insulated cabinet smokers ( aside from RedBox) have 2-3 14x14"ish cooking grates and start about $1000-$1200. Humphreys Half Pint , Backwoods Chubby.

At $1500-$1800 you can get a nice sized insulated cabinet like Humphreys Battle Box or Pint.

You could get a single wall non insulated cabinet 24x20 or 24x24 for $1000 but they are more of a stick burner. They will run on charcoal(15 lbs worth) 4-5 hrs before needing reloaded.

Occasionally you can find a new guy selling insulated cabinets on CraigsList Cheap but most have had issues with such. Poor quality , uneven cooking, even incomplete builds.

I've been wanting a Humphreys Pint for a while now but can't afford one. I used a UDS for about 5-6 years but got tired of pulling a grate of meat to get to 2nd grate so I bought a double walled propane cabinet and insulAted it and built a firebox insert- Decent but was drafty and temps would climb so sold it. Then I built a T shaped UDS- great acess and plenty of room with 2 cooking grates but it was a fuel hog so I sold it. I have several vertical single wall smokers but they eat up the charcoal and run better on firewood.

Insulated cabinet would be the way to go but the size you're looking for would probably be closer to $1500 and if you want or need it shipped that will add cost as well.

If you don't mind buying used, post a wanted thread in the Brethren sales and ventures, you might get lucky and someone within driving distance may have something that meets your needs and budget.

It's not a Cabinet but the Assassin Grill comes with a water tray and has plenty of room to cook ribs and brisket, they start at $600

smitty...if you would quit buying every cooker you see you could probably have 2 pints by now.:becky:

I Wish. I sell one or 2 to get another. Add them all up and they don't equal price of Pint. All mine is Cheap Stuff........
