• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Hello Everyone,

I came across this site while trying to research a new smoker. I've been making due off an on for a few years by using the smoker box option on my Weber Gas grill. Below you'll see some recent cooks, one shows a pork butt, some plate ribs, and homemade sausage. The other shows the pic which has launched this descent into madness. My wife volunteered me to do a brisket for a holiday party. I cooked the 16lb (trimmed) beast for 18 hours and it came out good... maybe even really good. But the net of it was my wife putting the pressure on me to go all in and buy a smoker. She basically said "If you don't buy one, I will and it might not be one you'll be happy with"

So I recently purchased a Johnson 2D Patio Smoker (expected Delivery in March)and am now consumed with thoughts of:
1) when am I going to find the time build the patio for where I want the smoker to go
2) How on earth am I going to get that 900lb behemoth from the curb to where it finally needs to go?
3) What am I going to smoke first? what am I going to smoke second? what am I going to smoke third? ..........

I am already getting tons of ideas from Qtalk and it is driving me crazy to wait to have to try them out.

Anyway, thanks for hosting a great site.

PS. I bet you were expect those pictures that I mentioned above. Apparently, the widget at the bottom of the screen says I am not allowed to post attachments. So you'll have to use your imagination :-P

Welcome to the asylum!

Take a look at the tutorial on posting pictures that I did in the Techie section

Welcome aboard bergenguy!

Hi Ron, I actually had your tutorial open in a split screen while I was composing my message.

When creating the thread I did not have s "go advanced" option available. However, in this reply to the thread, I do.

In my "additional options" area I do not have the attach files section. All I have for additional options is: "Miscellaneous Option" and "Thread Subscription"

If I scroll all the way down the page I do have a widget of "Posting Rules", one of which says "You may not post attachments". I think this would indicate that it is an issue with my account permissions.

Thanks anyway tho'

Welcome to the forum!
I use photobucket, then copy and paste the "img" url here. Good luck with it!

Welcome to The Brethren Bergenguy. Alas, you face the same dilemma that most here have had since being bitten by "The Bug". Fortunately, it is survivable. The answers to your questions are

1. Friends and/or neighbors + alcohol & a promise of BBQ

2. Friends and/or neighbors + alcohol & a promise of BBQ

3. For the 1st cook - A BBQ for said friends and/or neighbors (chicken, ribs, hot dogs, burgers, etc)

Welcome to the forum bergenguy, glad to have you join us and hopefully take part in the other forums.

We don't have a lot of rules here other than spam and advertising are not permitted, the rest is just common sense, courtesy, and mutual respect for one another.

You'll find a great group of people here with a willingness to help and guide you, regardless of of how simple or how complicated you think your question may be. You'll also find that there are many ways to achieve great food, there is no single "cookie cutter" method as some have been conditioned to think. You'll just have to try a few different methods and soon you'll master the way that works best for you.

We'll be here to guide you and answer your questions as you begin your journey into smoking and BBQ. Pretty soon you'll go from asking questions to posting pictures of your progress, and we will all share in your experience as true Brethren.

We have many different forums here.... Below are just a few of them.

For discussion on BBQ/Smoking related topics, we have the "Q-Talk" Forum. This is a good starting point for all new Brethren.

For those who are interested in competing, We have a "Competition BBQ" forum.

We also have a "Catering, Food Handling and Awareness" and "Catering, Vending and Cooking For The Masses".

We also have a trading forum where members can trade sauces and rubs available from different areas around our country.

For general non BBQ related talk we also have "The Wood Pile" forum.

I hope to see you in the "Q-Talk" forum soon. You'll find help on almost every topic from cooking your first Pork Butt to curing and smoking your own ham and bacon.

If you can't find the topic you need help with, or have questions about a specific topic, just start a new thread in the related forum.

There are many members with years of experience that are willing to answer your questions and share their knowledge to guide you in the right direction. Collectively there is a wealth of experience and knowledge among the membership, including you. Don't be afraid to jump in there and share your knowledge and your experiences as well.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. And thanks to Ron for working behind the scenes to fix my attachment posting permission issue. Here are the pics (although sadly these pics probably weren't worth the effort to get my posting ability fixed )
