• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

If the maker of your smoker didn't exist what brand/model would you buy? And you could only spend about the same amount as you did on the one that doesn't exist (if that makes sense)? And no, you can't go from a Spicewine Medium to a Spicewine Large or Lang 60 to a Lang 84.

For those of you who built your own - if you couldn't build what you have - what kind of smoker would you have built or bought?

I built a Backwoods. A little heavier though.
If I couldnt have built this one, I would have bought a Backwoods. Where I live, You almost NEED insulated.

Right now, my short list of next cookers looks like this...

Smokers
1) Large Horizon or Oklahoma Joe offset
2) Spicewine Large
3) CTO
4) Stumps

Grills
1) Big Green Egg Large
2) Drum (Doubles as a smoker)
3) WSM (Never owned one)

The only reason the Spicewine isn't first is because I've never cooked on a true offset like an Oklahoma Joe. To me, these are classic BBQ cookers just like a horizontal drum or WSM. Everyone should cook on one once.

If Cookshack did not make the FEC... I would....well, I would....pondering hard here....just QUIT!

Sorry--no reflection on all the other styles and brands out there.
The FEC is just "Me"

If no BGE, then Primo Oval ..... the ceramic versatility is key for me.

A very close #2 would be Traeger and I would go with 075 Texas Grill. Can't do the really high temps (searing & bread baking), but what it does ..... it does very well!

Yep I'd stay with a pellet pit, they are just too easy and do a good job.

Ive got a Bandera now, but Im Jonesin for an Egg. This is due to my desire for an extended burn.

that's tough, I have an egg and a stumps. I guess the primo oval and a home built gravity feed.

I see a trend here people would likely stay similar to what they have. Not surprising folks that put out good food are not anxious to change. I'll bet that there are some out there that are ready to give up and start over.

If I didn't have my Peoria and had to spend the same money I would buy a single axle Spicewine. I'd also like to have a trashcan cooker! hahaha

That's a tough one for me because I've actually owned my dream pit!! but, since I no longer own my beloved Texas Legend ......I'd well......get another Texas legend!!

Seriously....I've never owned a cabinet type smoker (always offsets or barrels) might like to give one of those gravity feed cabinet smokers a try....although I am very happy with my offsets!

Well, lets see here; I've got an ECB with the 110 volt mod, a small Keg-B-Quer grill (granddaughter's), Char-Grill POS gasser (wife's), BSKD with some mods (mine). If I couldn't replace one of them (BSKD?) then I guess that I'd buy the WSM. Oh, yeah, I did that last week:-P :-P :-P :!:

p.s.- What should my next one be, a UDS ?

I had never even heard of a Spicewine till I joined this forum 3 months ago. I don't know what they cost, but I got about $2500-$3000 in the 2 075's with all of the shipping and extra parts! I guess maybe a Spicewine if they ever go with pellets and digital controlers, next pit is gonna be CS WholeHog!

For some on this forum, if their smoker did not exist, there would not be many choices left.

Well if I had never owned my Ginny Lee, I would only know offsets and would have settled for a Lang, which is not really settling. But I LOVE MY Ginny and can't imagine smoking with anything else. In fact I'm wondering how I'm going to get rid of my chargrillers.

I built my own offset trailer rig. If I were to buy a new one, It would be a Klose like the one below, or a Spicewine. I've never cooked on a cabinet type smoker, but those Spicewines look pretty cool.

Anything mounted on a trailer with lots of storage space. Really doen't make any difference on the brand of smoker, you learn to cook on what you have.
