Yes, but the dipped it in the same stuff fireworks fountains are made of. I bought a bunch of bags because I got them on the cheap, but everytime I use it it's like a shower of sparks come out of the chimney. You need an armlength glove to keep from not getting burned pouring it out!

Sparks are common when using lump. I use Mesquite lump and enjoy the show, then again I like fire!

True, sparks are common with lump. Kingsford lump is a bit more sparky than other brands I've tried but I haven't found the need to use any protective gear when using it. I actually think it's a pretty high quality product. I don't use it for smoking, though, because it is slightly more expensive than Royal Oak. I keep a bag around for grilling, though.
