• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Got a couple of calls while I was down in Tejas today. My beer brewing club, the High Plains Draughters (pronounced "Drafters") is competing, as usual, at the Bluebonnet Brewoff next Saturday. Our "room crawl" theme is a western one (DUH!) and they're going to serve $75 worth of brisket. The guy who was cooking suddenly got called out of town for all of next week, so... He's got some large, bullet-like gasser that I'm picking up tomorrow, along with the meat. I figure I will get to cook around 35 pounds of beef during next week - BURN BAN BE DAMNED! I'll slip in a few fatties for me and them, and maybe some ribs. Never hurts to show people you're competent, right?

WOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I hope he doesn't need that pit back anytime soon.

Arlin, aren't you getting any of this rain we're getting on MO? I haven't heard of any ban being lifted here but everything is farkin soggy around my house. Figure if I feel the need to cook...

We were ribbin' you about a gasser. This is the next step. You'll have a new one in a couple of weeks.

No rain here, Jeff. Hell, I had to drive to Texas to find some! :-P

I picked up the gasser a bit ago and the guy's built himself a burner setup to turn this charcoal Brinkman into a ban-defying mama jama.

With that Afterburner page, Kevin, and a dimly-remembered post here about converting a 'Dera to gas - I just might do it!

I am happy for you.
See, good things happen when you visit Texas !!

Noooo... Resist the urge, Luke... Don't cross over to the dark side... :-D

Congrats on being able to cook!

I would only use it in emergencies, like the current and everlasting farking situation!!!!

Be sure to have one of them hi octain beers while cooking! We had a little rain shower this morning. Hopfully some of that made it your way!

Arlin, knew you'd get exposed to gas in Texas (especially seated next to Brian).

Glad ya got to see some rain.

You all missed a good one Saturday after we left. Trust ME

I've got two briskets and two butts soaking up some rub and I'ma cookin' tonight! Woo-hoo!

Well, when the owner of this gasser told me he could do "four briskets" on it I was thinking I could do two, and a couple of butts. Reasonable, right? I guess he only cooks those baseball mitt-sized packers, 'cause I filed the thing UP with brisket. No room for pork. :(

I hit the wall with the temperature for the first time. They're stuck at 155° and I work 25 miles away. Thank God it's Spring Break; I can have baby girl check temps and I can run home to foil 'em.

Here's what WAS going in there....

Arlin, all kidding aside, with this burn ban thing seeming to go on forever. You can go to china (You know, "that" store) and pick up a turkey fryer for less than $30.00 and turn the queer into a gasser temporarily. When the burn ban is over you can assemble the the turkey fryer and have a chimney lighter.

Queer gassers? Ummm.... <wink>

I HAVE been thinking of that, Kevin...dang it. I've got three burners and I could sure discombobulate one and mod my 'Dera but I'm holding out. We're going to get rain this weekend, so maybe the drought is busted.
<clicks the heels of his ruby slippers together>

Mission accomplished! Sixty-four minutes to get home (25 miles one way), pull, foil, and cooler the briskets (one was at 180°, the other was 190°), add water to the water pan and put in the butts, and get back. Not bad! That 190° hunk of meat squirt at me when I pushed in the thermometer. I think things will work out just fine.
