• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

How understanding are your neighbours?

It might just be a British thing, it might just be my neighbours, I don't know, but every time I fire up the chargrill I get the distinct impression they are not happy. ALl the windows in the house slam shut, if they've washing out it gets taken in and, this last Saturday night, I'd put two pieces of water-soaked cherry on for flavour (worked nicely:-D ) and they were in their garden and started coughing very pointedly:| Now, we get on OK but if I tried inviting them round they'd say no thanks. On the other hand I'm not gonna stop chargrilling as I like it too much but I'm worried that when I get my smoker built they're going to read me the riot act or something. Anyone got any tips on how to deal with this?

Probably Vegetarians, I suggest you build a Ugly Drum Smoker!

For the most part, people are understanding, but there have been times that the smoke has been a problem. If the wind is blowing from the northeast, then it can blow directly into the front of the neighbors house. Now this usually isn't a problem, but when their asthmatic daughter is in town they get a little agitated. Usually some Q or a sixer of beer quiets things down, but I try to be as respectful as possible. I let them know to the best of my knowledge when I'll be smoking if I think she is in town, and if the head of the household is around, I usually offer him a beer and try to get him involved.

Now with that said, I pretty much smoke as I please. I try to be respectful, but I do not see my passion as any more disruptive than loud music, parties, people in my yard!, cutting lawns on Sunday, or the bright orange pimpmobile two doors down. If it were me, I would continue to be neighborly, but fark them if they cannot take a joke....

Smoke more meat, drive them out. They aren't good enough to live next door.

Just what i thot. My neighbors get pissed when i'm not cooken something, theres times they show up with plates and beer and ask "HOW MUCH LONGER YOU GONNA BE" but i got some pritty cool neighbors

How do you fire up the chargrill?

I had a neighbor that used lighter fluid, and it makes the neighborhood smell like chit for 20 minutes.

I always use samples to get my neighbors to come around, even got the son in law of the next door neighbor smoking, so his folks now look forward to when I do it.

Oh, and Noah, Bite me

My neighbors are 60, ex-hippies, and like to run around naked. We both have 10 acres and we're seperated by woods. The only time they ever commented about my smoker was the day I seasoned it. I had it smeared down with Crisco inside & out. Farkin thing smelled great. Havent seen em since.

I live out in the country now, my closest neighbor is 1/2 mi away. They still know when I'm cooking though and love the smell. When I first started smoking on a regular basis, I lived in a neighborhood and no one ever complained.

Once the neighbors behind me had friends over and came outside about 2AM. The friends stated that it sure smelled good out here, the neighbors said, they hated when I cooked because of the smoke. After a few minutes of listening to the conversation, I invited the friends over for a few brews and a taste. I never heard from the neighbors again. :)

My neighbors have never complained. Except for the time their pictures fell off the walls when my pit exploded:shock: . I feed my neighbor lady next door a lot when I cook. She's real nice:wink: , and I figure I owe her anyways since she doesn't complain when I use her backyard to turn my pit around before I back it into the garage.

Imho

FARK THE NEIGHBORS!!!!!!
Smoke On!!!!!!I intentionally smoke meat and let the smoke drift
thru-out the hollar......

All of my neighbors show up with their own plates and forks:biggrin:

I live in a small rural town. Been here longer than most of my neighbors.
I could give a rat's a$$ if the like the smeel or not.
I hope it drives 'em nut it smells so damn good.
Neighbor was building a house, guys puttin the roof on were swearing like a bunch of sailors, with my kids outside.
Fired up the pit and cooked a batch of pulled pork the whole time they were on the roof the next day.
That'll teach 'em.

All you need to do is to find out what they like to eat and with out thier knowing, smoke it up for them and make a peace offering.
If that doesn't work, Then you know that you tried.
Never quit smokin!!

My neighbors understand that when there's smoke coming from the stack, there's ganna be something to eat, and somehow they just manage to show up unexpectedly. :-o

I guess just another example of American by birth, Southern by the Grace of God. The smoke from my cooking drives my neighbors crazy in a good way. Its just a normal part of life down here, the sweet smell of hickory burning is about as plesant as it gets to country folks.

Regardless of what you was smearing down , I would imagine seeing a neighbor with a 2# can of Crisco could be confusing for an ex-hipster, nudist or a senior citizen.

The prevailing wind takes my smoke in the direction of the only neighbor I dislike. It's good smoke mind you, he just never gets any samples. Probably drives him crazy.

they have to look at the trailer all bbq season i will cook stuff for them and they pay me for the meat they are allways wondering when i am cooking next

i think you just should just have an talk with them and if they are still rude

smoke them out don't cook any thing just see how much smoke you can make

york
they will come around

Thanks for reminding me why I swore that I'd never live in a subdivision ever again....it costs more to not live in one but it's worth it. 6 homes here on a dead end self maintained dirt road here and only 3 neighbors live past me and just wave and smile as they pass by.
