Hi, I Just got pellet grill it’s the Rec Tec 590. How to break it in?
Any suggestion. Thanks!

Run a high heat empty run for about 1 hour, wipe down the grates and throw something on it, it will season it's self, congrats on the new smoker, they make smoking easier, also a pellet tube can be added to help smoke , remember the lower temp you smoke the more smoke you get, I run as low as mine will go for a few-4 hours if I have time on large cuts , ribs chicken 1-2 hours, have fun and welcome to the site

^^^This and an inaugural run of a couple of Fatty's!

My 590 has a massive jam in it right now. Broke the shaft off of the motor trying to get it out. Recteq sending me a new motor and the parts that go with it. Gonna try and use a cats paw or small crowbar to hit the auger from the firepot side and see if that loosens it up...

It's a great pellet smoker, I've just figured out I can't leave pellets in mine for any long period of time.

You'll love it!

Pat, how long were your pellets in it?

You will love your RT 590. I think most people doo 400* for an hour. Then get to cooking!

There are lots of ways to break a pellet grill. Here's a short list:
  • Drop it off the truck when getting it delivered.
  • Put a large stick in the auger when it is running to make sure it's rotating. (Note that the stick needs to be big enough to stop the auger from rotating.)
  • Hit the control board with a hammer repeatedly.
  • Pour any liquid on the control boards while it is running.
  • Push it off a cliff

Just let your imagination go wild and I'm sure you can break it. And if you don't succeed on the first try, keep at it until you do!

I'm gonna guess a couple of weeks. I was out of town...:mmph:

It was also a monsoon here during that time. Lesson learned!

I will get that thing running again.

Yessir, I also have a 590, and Rec Tec recommends an hour at 400, which is what I did.

Then, I fired up some chicken thighs. I've done beef ribs, several racks of St. Louis ribs, tomorrow a 9 pound butt that's already trimmed up, rubbed up, and wrapped up in the fridge.

It's a fantastic cooker. Although mine is still new, I absolutely love it.

Rec Tec customer service is excellent. I had a question during assembly, and I couldn't get the app and the cooker to run on the wifi. Both issues solved quickly and easily. The folks at Rec Tec are super friendly.
