• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Just a couple of questions, Is the brinkman smoker king any better than the Chargrill version because I can get the Chargrill locally for 260.00 the Brinkman I have to order for 400.00. Also how much charcoal can I expect to use say for a 4 or 5 hour smoke session for ribs or the like. I know this is a vague ? I just want to make sure i have enough. By the way what is Hijacking?eel

EelMan,
If you are going to smoke this summer, buy 25 bags of Lump. No matter how much you use per smoke, you are going to use it up.
Can't tell ya how much. If I use my Lang, a bag an hour. My Brinkman, 2 bags for 12 hours.
Smoke On!!!!

The price on the Brinkmann should be around $200. I can't tell you anything about the charbroil, never seen one around here.

And what KAB said. Just buy plenty of charcoal. You'll use it sometime. I burn wood and use less than 1/2 of a trash can for an 8 hour cook.

I guess I am doing something wrong! I use 1 chimney of charcoal per smoke. The rest I use oak, hickory, apple, and pecan logs, cut and split. A 20# bag of Kingsford will last me for 5-6 smokes. Did not care for the lump. Lights fast, but burns just as fast.

For the difference in price I'd go with the Brinkman. Like Doorbusters I burn a little charcoal at the start of the cook and then burn wood. A 20-24 lb. bag of Kingsford will last me several cooks.

And I'm the same way as the above two gentlemen: I only start my fire with charcoal, then go with straight wood chunks or logs. If you've seen those mesh bags of wood (short logs) for sale, I go through about one of those in eight hours, usually.

How about no charcoal iffn you got enuf wood? My sentiments about charcoal briquetts are basically like Dave Little's about mutton except no digging.

I too start my offset cooks with briq, and go to wood for the duration. I usually end up making 2 to 4 additions of lit briq to replenish the coalbed during a long cook.

As suggested above, buy charcoal when it's on sale, you'll use it. My primary cooker burns pellets and I still have ~400# of old kingsford stacked in the garage (which I'm guarding like gold).

Hey eel, I was at Menards today and they had the Brinkmann Smoke King Deluxe priced at $189.00. If you look around your area you may find a better price.
