I stopped in my "local" HD, 1.5 hr drive the other day and noticed that they had a damaged 22.5 OTS on display. One of the legs was pretty well bent, the tri brace could not be attached. I asked a manager if they would be willing to discount from the "sale price" of $129. They would not, but they would sell me a brand new in box for the full price. Thanks but no thanks.

Expat, we get totally hosed up here by retail.

Store managers aside, our dollar is pretty much par but we still seem to have to pay 10-20% more for a lot of things. OTS is $89.70 with free shipping at HD US. At HD CAD we get to pay 129.00 plus 23.00 shipping to my postal code.

My passport should be here soon :becky:

I prefer Canadian Tire when I am in Canada, but I have often heard Canadians complain about this when I have been there. I still love the country and will visit it as often as I can, and I live in Kansas.

One of these days I will get that 4 foot Muskie, and I will smile as I take his picture and throw him back. However, all other species will be grilled and consumed with gusto.

Crappy Tire often has better prices than HD, but if a local Rona has whatever you're looking for they're usually better. Neither has OTS.

i find Home Hardware better for bbq stuff then HD, CT or RONA well in my neck of the woods

going to be ordering a country smoker from Home hardware this summer

I'm with you on that itr, but the HH in kits is way too small to carry anything useful. Definately location specific.

My Home Hardware is the best place in town, they have Treagers ,Weber's,and started carrying BGE stuff. The staff have the same passion as me

Roger that, HH has some nice stuff.. So does BBQ Galore if you have one in your area, Really nice inventory including BGE's.

Expatpig: Sorry they didn't deal with ya. I don't Love HD but have to go there sometimes..

Sales are far and few between up here, I make the 8 hr drive to Toronto occassionally and go to Ontario Gas BBQ, they carry just about everything that you need at full retail price. When I bought my Weber 22.5 grates for my last UDS at HD they were $36.99 each. ouch!

When I cooked in Langley, BC last year, I was shocked at how much you guys were paying WSM's and kettles. Even the dealer selling the Napoleon branded Pro Q's was getting @ $400CDN for them. Is it worth a drive to Bellingham or Blaine or do you have to pay duty when you cross the border?
A couple years ago a PNWBA member from Vancouver was looking for a Ranch kettle and I sent him a craigslist link and he was on it in a heartbeat to Seattle.

Weber prices are jacked up in Canada, no question about it. That was understood when the Canadian dollar was 30% lower than the US, but that hasn't been the case for years now. Our currencies have been about equal for some time now, within 5% anyway but more recently on par. Here's my options for an 18" WSM:
1) Retail in Saskatchewan $440
2) Retail in US (have to drive) $300
3) Online in US (shipped to US address because nobody that sells Weber is allowed to ship to Canada) $230 if you catch a sale.

We don't have to pay duty on products manufactured in the US...

I was going to get two soup kettles from Res equippers, $75 ea, shipping FEdX only method btw I'm told was going to be $232....forget it,eh..:boxing:

I did find some Natures Grilling Products charcoal at Walmart though, $5.37 for 6.6lb lump or9.9lb briquette. Seems like pretty good coal, good flavor, good heat, little ash.

I had a friend who worked at Home Depot and what he told me was that they stopped discounting "damaged" floor models. The reason was that people would go into the store and when they didn't think anyone was looking, they would damage the product and then ask for a discount. Sad but true.

You might have better luck in the fall when grills often go on sale, but even then it might be a long shot.

I just got word from Scott B in Vancouver, that if he wanted to order a Cajun Bandit it would cost him $140 to have it shipped to Sumas, WA! If any of you guys in BC are looking for bullets or kettles, let me know-I'll be cooking at Whistler and Langley in BC, and Blaine, B'ham, Lynden & Sedro Wooley WA, this Summer. Gregg in Portland is a Weber dealer and may have some PNWBA discounts? just a thought.

yep if i was looking for another smoke i'd buy it from the states and have it shipped near the border i usually go to point roberts, WA for my pickups
